Disclosed herein is a method and system for providing a ringback tone (RBT). The system for providing an RBT to a user comprises: a sound file storage for storing a sound file; a user database receiving sound selection information from a user terminal, recording a sound identifier of the sound file corresponding to the sound selection information, receiving output position information of the selected sound file from the user terminal, and recording the sound position information; and an RBT providing unit reproducing a region which corresponds to the output position information from the sound file corresponding to the sound identifier with reference to the sound file storage and the user database so as to be provided as an RBT.

Proxy media service for digital telephony

A Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) service system includes a SIP-enabled soft switch at a telephony service provider, executing code from a coupled machine-readable medium, routing SIP transactions to remote destinations, a media server coupled to the SIP-enabled soft switch storing media including ring tones and music-on-hold for use in progressing transactions, and an interface to a wide-area-network (WAN) for transmitting transactions and media. The SIP-enabled soft switch determines for each transaction from stored data whether media services are to be provided or not provided for that destination, and in the event media services are not to be provided, alters packet data to indicate media services to be provided by a server local to the destination.

Accurate dispositioning of a telephone call by reconciliating cause codes with in-band audio information

A telephone call to a remote party may encounter a number of abnormal conditions, which prevents the call from being offered to the remote party's interface. These conditions may be indicated to the calling party using call progress information conveyed as out-of-band information, in the form of signaling elements and/or as in-band information, in the form of audio information. The audio information may include a special information tone and/or an intercept announcement. The call handler originating the outbound call may provide the audio information to a speech analytics component that analyzes the audio information. The analyzed audio information may be reconciled with the out-of-band information. Various rules can be applied to ascertain how to disposition the call in instances where the in-band and out-of-information are inconsistent. Once reconciled, accurate call disposition information can be recorded in the call record for that call.

A monitoring system for communicating between a customer device operating in a tone-based reporting format and a central monitoring station (CMS) operating in an IP-based reporting format may include a message tone detector, an IP message generator, an IP acknowledgement detector, a handshake and acknowledgement tone generator, and a processor communicatively linked with each. The message tone detector may be configured to intercept one or more messages sent from the customer device towards the CMS. The IP message generator may be configured to generate and transmit a converted message to the CMS. The IP acknowledgement detector may be configured to receive one or more acknowledgements sent from the CMS. The handshake and acknowledgement tone generator may be configured to generate and transmit one or more acknowledgements to the customer device based on a received acknowledgement from the CMS.
