A method of making a security device, comprising: forming an array of primary focusing elements on a first region of a focusing element support layer, by applying at least one transparent curable material either to the focusing element support layer or to a casting tool carrying a surface relief over an area which includes at least the first region, the surface relief comprising portions corresponding to the primary focusing elements; forming the transparent curable material(s) with the casting tool; and curing the transparent curable material(s) so as to retain the surface relief in the first region; wherein the surface relief further includes a plurality of structures of greater depth than the height of the primary focusing elements such that the cured transparent material(s) include a plurality of features protruding above the height of the primary focusing elements between primary focusing elements of the array.

Various different output devices (e.g., printers, display devices) can be used to output content on various different substrates (e.g., paper, projector screens, painted walls or wallpaper). A data store stores output metadata for various output device and substrate combinations. The output metadata for an output device and substrate combination describes various different aspects of how that output device is to output color on that substrate. A computing device coupled to an output device obtains an identifier of the output device and an identifier of the substrate. The computing device communicates uses these identifiers to retrieve from the data store (e.g., directly or via a service) the output metadata for the output device and the substrate. The computing device uses the output metadata to generate output parameters for use when outputting content to the substrate.

READING DEVICE
A reading device, in particular for the visually impaired, has a flat and transparent platen for reading material and an image-recording device for acquiring through the platen a text and/or an image of at least a part of the reading material. The reading device is designed and further developed to provide for easy transportation and simple stowage of the reading device when not in use. A support element is pivotable relative to the platen about a pivot axis assigned to the platen. The support element is pivotable into an operating position inclined at a defined angle to a vertical direction to position the platen into an operating position. The support element is also pivotable into a transportation or rest position whereby the platen and the support element substantially lie against each other.

A recording apparatus includes a support unit including a support surface configured to support a medium, a recording unit configured to perform recording on the medium supported by the support unit, and a projection unit configured to project an image onto the support surface. The projection unit includes an irradiation unit configured to irradiate the support surface with light, and a light blocking portion configured to block a part of the light emitted from the irradiation unit. The light blocking portion includes at least one light blocking region configured to block the part of the light emitted from the irradiation unit. The projection unit is configured to project a reference position image indicating a reference position of the medium supported by the support surface onto the support surface by blocking the part of the light emitted by the irradiation unit with the at least one light blocking region.

Viewing its appearance from two different angles in this way, the relative positioning of the focussing element array and the image array can be judged to a high degree of accuracy. If the two arrays do not have the desired relative position, this will be clearly apparent since the different first and second images will not be captured at the first and second test viewing angles.
