A communication apparatus includes: a first type communication unit configured to perform communication with a portable device in a near field communication mode; a display unit; and a control device configured to perform: a receiving process of receiving a radio wave for connection with the portable device in the near field communication mode, from the portable device through the first type communication unit; and a display process of controlling the display unit to display a notice for prompting a user to perform operation for permitting the portable device to transmit information to the communication apparatus in the near field communication mode, in response to receipt of the radio wave in the receiving process.

Techniques describe opportunistically capturing and tagging images with wireless information by a mobile device. The tagged image may be transmitted to a remote server, such as a crowdsourcing server, where the location at which the image was captured may be determined using visual features from the image. An association between the location and the wireless measurements may be used in building/maintaining a heatmap. In one embodiment, techniques are described for setting camera parameters for opportunistically capturing images and may include receiving at least one signal associated with at least one signal emitting device, determining information associated with the at least one signal emitting device using the at least one signal, setting at least one camera parameter for a camera coupled to the mobile device based on the information associated with the at least one signal emitting device, and capturing one or more images using the at least one camera parameter.

A tablet terminal includes a detection unit that detects a distance to a printing apparatus, a tablet terminal radio communication unit that transmits a command indicating control of the printing apparatus, and a processing unit that suppresses transmission of a command to be transmitted by the tablet terminal radio communication unit when the distance to the printing apparatus detected by the detection unit is greater than or equal to a predetermined value.

A program causes a terminal device to function as a communication unit that receives a beacon signal and the processing unit. An image reading device includes a document placing table, and a cover. The cover is rotatably attached to the document placing table, and includes a receptacle for a portable terminal with a camera, the receptacle being configured to hold the portable terminal so that the camera faces the document placing table.

A mobile terminal can set a user credential used to log into an image processing apparatus and transmit print data to the image processing apparatus. The mobile terminal displays a screen that receives a print setting with respect to the print data to be transmitted. The mobile terminal also displays, in response to receipt of a user instruction to display a screen configured to receive a setting of authentication information, as a screen that receives the print setting, the screen configured to receive the setting of the authentication information to be added to the print data and on which the user credential used to log in is reflected.

An image forming apparatus includes a communication portion arranged inside a cover covering an image forming portion in the main body of the apparatus and including an antenna surface for use in establishing near field communication. The cover includes a stacking portion in its upper section. The stacking portion is configured to receive a recording medium with an image thereon, the recording medium being discharged outside the main body of the apparatus. The antenna surface faces a region of the upper section of the cover downstream in a direction of discharging the recording medium. The antenna surface at least partially faces a region of the upper section of the cover outside the stacking portion in a direction perpendicular to the direction of discharging the recording medium. The communication portion is capable of communicating with another communication portion using near field communication.

A control device may be configured to detect that a communication state between a printer and a server which is configured to provide a service related to the printer has been changed from a communication-disabled state to a communication-enabled state and in a case where a change of the communication state from the communication-disabled state to the communication-enabled state is detected, display a notification message for promoting subscription to the service on a display unit.

An information terminal transmits information relating to user authentication to an image processing apparatus via short-range wireless communication. The image processing apparatus performs processing for the user authentication using the received information, and transitions to a status where a function of the image processing apparatus is used via an operation unit upon condition that the user authentication has succeeded. The information terminal transmits data to be used in any one of individual functions included in the image processing apparatus to the image processing apparatus based on receipt of information indicating successful user authentication from the image processing apparatus. After receiving the data from the information terminal, the image processing apparatus uses the received data as a setting of the function of the image processing apparatus that corresponds to the data.
