An image reading device includes a turning unit and a reading unit having a reader. The reader reads an image on a sheet. The turning unit can turn with respect to the reading unit. The turning unit includes a communication unit and a storage portion. The communication unit receives data from outside the image reading device by wirelessly communication and includes a communication main unit detachably mounted within the turning unit and a communication cable that transfers data received by the communication main unit. The storage portion stores the communication cable.

A multi-function apparatus includes a body, an image reading unit, a document cover and a locking member. The image reading unit is movable between a closed position and an opened position. The document cover is movable between a closed position and an opened position. The locking member is movable to a first position and a second position and includes a first engagement portion and a second engagement portion. In response to a movement of the document cover to the opened position, the locking member moves to the first position and locks the image reading unit to the closed position. In response to a movement of the image reading unit to the opened position, the locking member moves to the second position and locks the document cover to the closed position.

A document reading apparatus includes an image reading unit, a document conveyance unit, and a hinge mechanism. The document conveyance unit includes a first abutment portion and a second abutment portion. The document conveyance unit includes a first abutment portion and a second abutment portion. The hinge mechanism includes a first member, a first shaft, a second member, a second shaft, a third member, a third shaft, a fourth member, a first urging portion, a second urging portion. The fourth member has a first pair of side plates supported by the third shaft. The second spring is disposed outside the first pair of side plates in an axial direction of the third shaft.

A document cover closer provided with a fire spread preventing cover capable of almost entirely covering internal features of the document cover closer, in order to prevent exposure of the internal features to flare in case of an ignition at peripheral electrical equipment, as well as office equipment using such a document cover closer. The document cover closer comprises a fire spread preventing cover capable of almost entirely covering internal features with their parts coated with oil being exposed and of almost securely preventing a contamination of an end of a document placed on a document platen by lubricant oil or rust-preventive oil. An image reading apparatus includes a reading unit, a cover, and a hinge mechanism connecting the cover to the reading unit pivotably about a pivot axis which extends in a first direction. A center of gravity of the cover is closer to a first end of the cover in a first direction than to a second end of the cover. A first hinge is spaced from the center of gravity toward the second end of the cover in the first direction. A second hinge is disposed closer to the center of gravity in the first direction than the first hinge. The first hinge includes a base member disposed movably in the reading unit, a pivot member coupled to the cover, and an urging member exerting an urging force between the base member and the pivot member so as to maintain the cover at a pivoted position.

There is provided an image forming apparatus including a scanner unit configured to be openable on an apparatus front side with respect to a printer unit due to a first hinge portion on an apparatus rear side, a cover to cover a feed port configured to be openable due to a second hinge portion on the apparatus front side of the feed port, wherein a rotation axis of the first hinge portion is positioned on the apparatus rear side of a rotation axis of the second hinge portion in an apparatus depth direction. Interlocking with an operation to open the scanner unit, the cover moves while a portion thereof is in contact with a surface of the paper feed tray or the sheet placed thereon to open the cover in an interlocking manner.

An image reading and recording apparatus includes an image recording unit and an image reading unit supported to be pivotally movable above the image recording unit and configured to be opened and closed by being pivotally moved relative to the image recording unit. The apparatus includes a stay including an opening portion formed thereon, a rotor inserted in the opening portion of the stay, a first cam surface provided on an inner peripheral portion of the opening portion, and a second cam surface provided on an outer peripheral portion of the rotor. The rotor rotates due to abutment of the first cam surface and the second cam surface with each other. The image reading unit is held in a first opened state with a first open angle, due to meshed engagement f the first cam surface and the second cam surface with each other.

An image reading device is movable between a first position and a second position spaced farther apart from an image forming device than the first position, and a regulating member configured to regulate respective positions of two cables maintains, when the image reading device is at the first position, the two cables, respectively, in a bent state in a direction away from each other.

An image forming apparatus includes an apparatus body and a moveable unit. The apparatus body includes an image forming device and a restriction portion. The moveable unit includes an image reading device and is detachably attached to the apparatus body. The moveable unit is opened and closed with respect to the apparatus body by rotation about a rotation shaft when the moveable unit is attached to the apparatus body. The moveable unit is attached to and detached from the apparatus body by moving in an axial direction of the rotation shaft. The moveable unit further includes a restricted portion that engages with the restriction portion that restricts a movement of the moveable unit in the axial direction. The restriction portion or the restricted portion further includes a deformation portion having elasticity. The deformation portion is deformed so that the moveable unit is attached to and detached from the apparatus body.
