A reading apparatus includes a cover configured to pivot to an open position and a closed position, a lock mechanism configured to restrict the cover in the closed position from pivoting to the open position, and a reading unit provided in the cover or in a member facing the cover in the closed position, and configured to read a medium when the cover is in the closed position. The cover includes a protruding portion. A latch face configured to come into contact with a face of the protruding portion facing toward one direction along a first axis when the cover is in a closed position, the first axis being orthogonal to a pivoting shaft of the cover. The latch face is configured to move in the other direction along the first axis when the latch moves from a lock release position to a lock position.

In an example, a device hinge may include a hinge member to rotatably engage a device feature to a device. The device hinge may further include a cam element having a cam ramp and a cam face. The cam face may engage with the device feature in a stowed position. The device feature may further include a bias member and an ejector. The ejector may move the device feature from the stowed position to an ejected position, and the bias member may move the device feature to the ejected position such that a clearance gap is created in between a surface of the device feature and a surface of the device.

In a scanner, a document cover is pivotable about a pivot axis between a closed position to cover the document table and an open position to expose the document table. An operation panel is movable between a first position and a second position lower than the first position. The operation panel in the first position overlaps with the document cover in the closed position when viewed in a perpendicular direction to the pivot axis of the document cover. The document cover is away from the operation panel in the perpendicular direction. The moving mechanism is configured to move the operation panel to the second position in response to pivoting of the document cover to the open position, and to move the operation panel to the first position in response to the pivoting of the document cover to the closed position.

A lock lever structure includes a shaft; a cam attached to the shaft to fit a different-shaped portion of the shaft to prevent rotation of the cam in a circumferential direction of the shaft, the different-shaped portion having a different shape in cross section from a round portion of the shaft; a lever having an inner hollow cylindrical portion larger than an outline of the shaft and attached to the shaft to be rotatable in the circumferential direction of the shaft; a spring attached to the shaft to press the cam and the lever in an axial direction of the shaft; and a retainer attached to the shaft to retain the spring, the cam, and the lever to the shaft. The cam has at least two valley portions. The lever has a contact portion to contact the cam. The contact portion has a base shape.

An image reading device includes a turning unit, a hinge, and a reading unit having a reader that reads a sheet image. The hinge turns the turning unit which turns relative to the reading unit. The reader reads, through a reading unit reading glass, an image on a sheet placed on the reading glass. The turning unit includes a pressing plate, a conveying roller, a motor, and a communication unit. The pressing plate presses a sheet against the reading glass when the turning unit is at a position closing the reading glass. The motor rotates the conveying roller to convey a sheet. In a direction perpendicular to a turning axis line direction of the hinge, the motor is disposed on one side of the turning unit. The communication unit is disposed on the other side and receives data from outside of the image reading device.

A reading device (100) includes a reading section (143), a casing (160), a cover section (110), a conveyance section (130), an interposed member (170), a controller (153), a cable (180), and a linking member (190). The casing (160) houses the reading section (143) therein. It is possible to place the cover section (110) on the casing (160). The conveyance section (130) is housed in the cover section (110) and conveys a sheet. The interposed member (170) is interposed between the cover section (110) and the casing (160). The controller (153) is housed in the casing (160) and controls the conveyance section (130). The cable (180) is connected to the controller (153), is also connected to the conveyance section (130), and transfers a control signal output by the controller (153) to the conveyance section (130). The linking member (190) is linked to the cover section (110) and is also linked to the casing (160).

An image reading device includes a turning unit and a reading unit having a reader and a reading glass. The reader reads, through the reading glass, an image on a sheet placed on the reading glass. The turning unit can turn with respect to the reading unit. The turning unit includes a pressing plate, a communication unit, and an attachment part. The pressing plate presses a sheet on the reading glass against the reading glass when the turning unit is at a position closing the reading glass. The communication unit receives data from outside the image reading device by wireless communication. The communication unit is detachably mounted within the turning unit. The attachment part attaches the communication unit and has a weight mounting portion capable of mounting a weight.

An image reading device includes an image reader movable along an image reading face, a casing to house the image reader, including a restraint holder, and a restraint to be held by the restraint holder of the casing and configured to restrict movement of the image reader. The restraint includes an operation portion to be disposed outside the casing. The operation portion is operated to move the restraint, in the restraint holder, to: a restricting position to restrict movement of the image reader; a first unlock position to cancel restriction of movement of the image reader; and a second unlock position at which movement of the image reader is not restricted. At the first unlock position, movement of the restraint to the restricting position is allowed. From the second unlock position, movement to the restricting position is less smooth than movement from the first unlock position to the restricting position.

An image forming apparatus includes an image forming portion to form an image on a sheet, a tray on which sheets to be fed are stacked, and a swing member supported by the tray and configured to swing in a case where the swing member is pushed by a discharged sheet. A stacking portion includes a first surface on an upper portion of a first portion, and a moving member in contact with the discharged sheet. The moving member can be positioned at a position downstream of the first surface in the discharge direction, wherein the swing member overlaps with the first surface as viewed in the sheet width direction in a case where the swing member is not in contact with a discharged sheet, and the swing member is arranged such that a lower end of the swing member is not in contact with the stacking portion.

An image reading apparatus includes a support portion, a reading portion, a first cover, a second cover, and a holding mechanism. The first cover moves between a second closed position where the first cover covers the reading portion in a first closed position and a second open position where the first cover opens the reading portion. The second cover moves between a third closed position where the second cover forms a second area of a conveyance path together with the first cover in the second closed position and a third open position where the second cover opens the second area. The holding mechanism prevents the first cover from moving from the second open position to the second closed position and holds the first cover in the second open position when the second cover is in the third open position and the first cover is in the second open position.
