An image forming apparatus includes an image formation unit configured to form an image on a sheet at a formation position; a circulatory conveyance path for conveying the sheet with the image formed at the formation position on a first side thereof to the formation position again; a reading unit configured to read the first side of the sheet conveyed through the circulatory conveyance path and output image information; and a conveyance control unit configured to convey the sheet in one conveyance mode out of a plurality of conveyance modes when the reading unit reads the first side of the sheet. A range, in a conveyance direction, of the sheet that can be read by the reading unit while a conveyance speed of the sheet is constant is different for each of the plurality of conveyance modes.

A peripheral with a pivotal turn-over guiding mechanism includes: a transporting mechanism; first to third passages; an image processing unit disposed on the first passage, wherein after the image processing unit performs a first image process on a first side of a medium, the transporting mechanism transports the medium into, partially out of and back into the second passage, into the third passage, and then into the first passage, and the image processing unit performs a second image process on a second side of the medium; and a guide member, which is rotatably disposed at a connection portion of the third passage, the second passage and the first passage, normally closes a forward path from the first passage to the second passage, and normally opens a reverse path from the second passage to the third passage.

A document conveyance apparatus includes a feed roller, a first and a second conveyance rollers, a conveyance shaft, an arm portion rotatably moving the feed roller to a standby position to a feeding position, a transmission portion transmitting rotation of the conveyance roller shaft to the arm portion, and a torque limiter. The feed roller and the first conveyance roller rotate in a conveyance direction when the conveyance roller shaft rotates in a first direction, and the feed roller moves from a feeding position to a standby position when the conveyance roller shaft rotates in a second direction. When a document fed by the second conveyance roller moves through a nip portion, a transmission portion does not transmit rotation of the first conveyance roller rotated in the second direction by the separation roller to an arm portion by operation of the torque limiter.

An image reading apparatus includes a stacking tray, a feeding roller, a restricting member configured to move to a restricting position and a retracted position, a reading sensor, a reversing roller configured to perform a reversing operation, a first conveyance path, a second conveyance, and a controller. The controller is configured to permit the reversing operation if the controller receives an execution instruction of a double-sided reading job on a sheet having a first size, and prohibit the reversing operation if the controller receives an execution instruction of the double-sided reading job on a sheet having a second size smaller than the first size.

A duplex scan indicative scanner includes a sheet passage, a transporting mechanism, one single scanning module, a duplex indicator and a connection interface. The transporting mechanism transports a document past the sheet passage. The scanning module scans a first side of the document passing through the sheet passage. The connection interface is electrically connected to an electronic device, the duplex indicator, the transporting mechanism and the scanning module. After the electronic device has controlled, through the connection interface, the scanning module to scan the first side, the electronic device controls, through the connection interface, the duplex indicator to output a duplex indication message to guide a user to place the document or a second document, so that a second side of the document or the second document is scanned by the scanning module. A duplex scan indicative scanning apparatus and a duplex scan indicative scanning method are also provided.

A transport path moves cards between the bins and has two scan bars, one above and one below the path. The scan bars capture an image of a top and bottom surface of ones of the cards. A controller coordinates movement of the cards along the path and receives the image for processing. Users interact with the controller by way of an interface to influence the processing. The sorter also includes a coil to detect metal foil on the cards. Other embodiments are envisioned.

The reading unit reads a first image on a first surface of a sheet and a second image on a second surface of the sheet and generates first and second image data, respectively. The controller determines, based on the first and second image data, whether the first image is at a first edge of the first surface and the second image is at a second edge of the second surface of the sheet. The controller combines the first and second image data into combined image data corresponding to the first and second images if both the first image is at the first edge and the second image is at the second edge. The controller processes the combined image data such that a combined image corresponding to the combined image data has a predetermined size.
