An image forming apparatus includes an image reading unit. When printing a postcard is selected, a preview screen including a preview image about an image on a communication side of the postcard read by the image reacting unit is displayed on a display. At this occasion, an instruction image indicating an orientation of an address side of the postcard is also displayed. When it is instructed to turn over the preview image on the communication side, the preview screen including the preview image on the address side is displayed on the display. When the orientation of the address side and the orientation of the communication side do not coincide with each other, or when they are not as intended by a user, printing is performed after the image on the communication side is rotated according to the user's operation.

A medium conveying apparatus includes a conveyance roller to convey a medium, an imaging sensor to sequentially generate a line image acquired by imaging the medium conveyed by the conveyance roller, a processor to detect an inclination of the conveyed medium based on at least two first pixels in the line image, determine whether a part of the conveyed medium has passed through a position corresponding to a second pixel located outside the first pixels based on the line image, and stop conveyance of the medium by the conveyance roller when the detected inclination is equal to or greater than a threshold value and the processor determines that a part of the medium has passed through the position corresponding to the second pixel.

POSITION DETECTION DEVICE, IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS, AND POSITION DETECTION METHOD

A position detection device includes a background member, a reader, and processing circuitry. The background member has a higher absorption characteristic in an invisible wavelength region than in a visible wavelength region. The reader opposite the background member irradiates a recording medium having a mark and the background member with light of a visible wavelength to output a visible image or with light of an invisible wavelength to output an invisible image. The processing circuitry is configured to: detect an end position of the recording medium and a position of the mark on the recording medium from a read image output from the reader; and select the visible or invisible image as the read image used for position detection, according to an absorption characteristic of a color material forming the mark read by the reader and an absorption characteristic of the recording medium in the invisible wavelength region.

An image processing device includes a printing unit printing an image on a sheet including first and second tags. The first and second tags have first and second antennas extending along first and second directions. The device further includes a tag reading unit including a third antenna and configured to transmit, towards the sheet from the third antenna, first radio waves polarized in the first direction and second radio waves polarized in the second direction in each of a first period during which the sheet is conveyed towards the third antenna and a second period during which the sheet is conveyed away from the third antenna, and determine an orientation of the sheet based on intensities of third radio waves polarized in the first direction and fourth radio waves polarized in the second direction, which have been received by the third antenna in each of the first and second periods.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR IDENTIFYING AND TRANSFERRING SHEETS

Provided are systems and methods for identifying, isolating, and/or aligning sheets. An identification system can facilitate accurate identification of a sheet by (i) vacating one or more components of the system that are not the sheet from a zone of detection, and/or (ii) determining a reference axis of the sheet. An isolation system can facilitate accurate isolation of a sheet by (i) providing targeted air flow, and/or (ii) introducing a wave into the sheet. Identification systems and/or isolation systems described herein may facilitate isolation of sheets that were previously fastened together by one or more fasteners. An alignment system can facilitate accurate alignment of a first sheet at an upstream location relative to a second sheet at a downstream location via machine learning.

In an image processing apparatus, a condition for detecting a print position deviation on a print medium in a printed material is set. Based on the condition, data obtained by reading the print medium for the print position deviation is inspected. In the condition, in a case where a width of the print medium is larger than a readable width for reading the print medium, a settable range is small relative to a case where the width of the print medium is smaller than the readable width.
