An image processing device comprising a processor configured to: determine presence or absence of a face image for each of a plurality of pieces of image data read from at least one image presenting medium, and decide a relationship for the plurality of pieces of image data, based on a result of the determination. The relationship is a front and back of the image presenting medium or a page order, and the processor is further configured to: decides that image data including a face image is on a front side of the image presenting medium or on a page before image data not including a face image.

An image processing apparatus includes circuitry to determine a type of a document based on a determination result of a character area and a non-character area in an input image of the document; select a model to be used in top-bottom determination from a plurality of models based on the type of the document; reduce the input image, to generate a reduced image; and cut out a part of the input image as a partial image. The circuitry outputs a top-bottom determination result of the input image using the selected model and one of the reduced image and the partial image corresponding to the model.

According to an automatic document feeder of a multifunction peripheral according to the present invention, two tilt sensors are provided in the middle of a document conveyance path to detect a tilt degree of a document being conveyed along the document conveyance path. Here, for example, if the positional deviation representing the tilt degree of the document is greater than a predetermined threshold value ΔLs, the conveyance of the document is stopped. On the other hand, if this is not the case, the conveyance of the document is continued. In addition, the threshold value is set in accordance with the width dimension of the document, and in particular, the larger the width dimension, the smaller the threshold value.

A document scanning device is disclosed. For example, the document scanning device includes a platen glass, an optical scanner located below the platen glass, a plurality of light arrays located around a perimeter of the platen glass, and a processor communicatively coupled to the optical scanner and the plurality of light arrays, wherein the processor is to control a portion of the plurality of light arrays to define an origin and an orientation of a document for a scan job and control the optical scanner to scan the document on the platen glass.

An image reading apparatus includes a conveyor configured to convey an original in a conveyance direction; a reader configured to read an image of the original conveyed by the conveyor; and at least one processor configured to: determine, based on the image read by the reader, an inclination amount corresponding to an inclination angle of a side of a leading edge of the original in the conveyance direction, wherein the inclination angle represents an inclination of the side of the leading edge of the original with respect to a width direction orthogonal to the conveyance direction; rotationally correct the image read by the reader by the inclination amount so as to reduce the inclination amount to output a first image in which the rotationally corrected image is included in a case where the inclination amount is smaller than a predetermined amount.

A slide rack determination system for a digital slide scanning apparatus. In an embodiment, a motor drives a slide rack at a known rate toward an engagement surface. The elapsed time until engagement may be used to detect the presence or absence of the slide rack and/or the height of the slide rack. In addition, one or more sensors may detect one or more features of the slide rack, and these feature(s) may be used to determine the presence or absence of a slide rack, whether usage of the slide rack is supported or unsupported by the digital slide scanning apparatus, the orientation of the slide rack, and/or the manufacturer and/or model of the slide rack.

According to the technology of the present disclosure, in a case where multiple documents are placed on a document positioning plate, it is possible to display document images on a UI screen in such a manner that the user can easily check the correspondence relationship between the document images being displayed on the UI screen and the corresponding documents placed on the document positioning plate. An image processing apparatus according to the present disclosure includes a processor causing the image processing apparatus to perform: acquiring position information of each of a plurality of document image areas, and information of an analyzing result obtained by analysis of document image data corresponding to each of the plurality of document image areas; and controlling the information of the analyzing result corresponding to one of the plurality of document image areas to be displayed together with the scanned image data on a display apparatus.

The invention comprises a printing method, comprising the steps of: marking a markable surface with a graphical code; loading into a plotter system the markable surface; receiving a print job related to the graphical code; and plotting the set of vectors on the markable surface, such as by identifying a particular media type of the markable surface with the graphical code, receiving into the plotter system a print job, the print job comprising: (1) the set of vectors; and (2) a printable media requirement; scanning, with the plotter system, the printable media code; and confirming the printable media requirement matches the particular media type.

A multifunction peripheral includes an automatic document feeder allowing a document to be conveyed one sheet at a time along a document conveyance path. The document passes through an image reading position midway through conveyance and an image of the document is thereby read. In addition, the angle of tilt of the document is detected on the document conveyance path. If the absolute value of the angle of tilt is less than a first threshold, for instance, tilt correction is not conducted. If the absolute value of the angle of tilt is not less than the first threshold but is less than a second threshold, tilt correction is conducted by image processing. If the absolute value of the angle of tilt is not less than the second threshold, the conveyance of the document is stopped.

A system and method for aligning documents for scanning includes a multifunction peripheral with a controller having a processor and associated memory. The controller issues instructions controlling operation of a scanner. A tangible document is placed on a surface of a scanner platen, and a sensor determines its location relative to the platen. An optimal position of the document relative to the platen is determined. The processor then generates a graphical rendering on an associated display indicative of a directed repositioning of the document on the platen in accordance with a determined optimal position of the document relative to the platen.
