The operations include retrieving an augmented reality element comprising a virtual box that is in a closed state. The operations include obtaining triggers associated with the virtual box, the triggers configured to change the virtual box from the closed state to an open state. The operations include displaying the virtual box. The operations include receiving input associated with the virtual box. The operations include determining that the received input corresponds to the one or more triggers associated with the virtual box. The operations include modifying the virtual box from being displayed in the closed state to being displayed in the open state.

Automatically scanning multiple document sheets with a camera includes receiving a video stream while the camera is pointed at the multiple document sheets, detecting presence of a first top page of the multiple document sheets based on the video stream, taking a still photograph of the first top page in response to detecting presence of the first top page, detecting presence of a second top page based on the video stream by confirming that the second top page is different from the first top page and by waiting a predetermined amount of time for an image of the second top page to stabilize, and taking a still photograph of the second top page in response to detecting presence of the second top page. Detecting the pages may include determining that the camera is pointing at the stack of documents and a detected page is not obstructed.

An image forming apparatus includes a conveyance mechanism, a sheet sensor, a sheet thickness sensor, and circuitry. The conveyance mechanism conveys a sheet. The sheet sensor detects the sheet conveyed by the conveyance mechanism at a predetermined position on a conveyance path. The sheet thickness sensor detects sheet thickness information indicating a thickness of the sheet. The circuitry acquires conveyance time information indicating a conveyance time taken to convey the sheet in a predetermined section on the conveyance path, according to a detection result of the sheet by the sheet sensor. The circuitry stores the conveyance time information for each thickness of the sheet in a storage medium, and predicts a failure timing of the conveyance mechanism at the predetermined position for each thickness of the sheet, based on the conveyance time information stored in the storage medium and an accumulative number of sheets conveyed by the conveyance mechanism.

According to one embodiment, an image processing apparatus has a storage unit and a scanner to read an image from a sheet, generate image data by the reading of the image from the sheet, and store the image data in the storage unit. A control unit combines a reading-direction image indicating a reading direction of the scanner with the generated image data to produce combined image data, and then stores the combined image data in the storage unit, The control unit is configured to set a position where the reading-direction image is arranged in the combined image data and a size of the reading-direction image based on a reading resolution in the reading of the image from the sheet by the scanner and a recording resolution of the image data recorded in the storage unit.

The document or contract validation system validates the document or contract before submitting the document or contract to a transaction system as a valid transaction. The digital representation of the document or contract may include one or more sets of parameters that are useful in the validation process.
