An image forming apparatus includes a conveyance mechanism, a sheet sensor, a sheet thickness sensor, and circuitry. The conveyance mechanism conveys a sheet. The sheet sensor detects the sheet conveyed by the conveyance mechanism at a predetermined position on a conveyance path. The sheet thickness sensor detects sheet thickness information indicating a thickness of the sheet. The circuitry acquires conveyance time information indicating a conveyance time taken to convey the sheet in a predetermined section on the conveyance path, according to a detection result of the sheet by the sheet sensor. The circuitry stores the conveyance time information for each thickness of the sheet in a storage medium, and predicts a failure timing of the conveyance mechanism at the predetermined position for each thickness of the sheet, based on the conveyance time information stored in the storage medium and an accumulative number of sheets conveyed by the conveyance mechanism.

The reader can read information related to the target file from the target file. The comparer can compare information related to at least one executed file for which a workflow was executed on stored in a storage with the information related to the target file. The controller can control the workflow for the target file based on the comparison result.

An image processing device includes circuitry configured to calculate an edge amount for the target pixel in a shadow region in image data; determine whether the target pixel corresponds to an edge, based on the edge amount; determine whether the edge is a part of a continuous edge based on the edge amount, in response to a determination that the target pixel corresponds to the edge; count an edge continuity number for the target pixel; count an edge continuity number for a previous target pixel selected immediately before the target pixel and determine whether the edge continuity number for the previous target pixel is greater than a preset number in response to a determination that the target pixel does not correspond to the edge; and detect a boundary position based on the edge amount of each of the target pixels forming the continuous edge up to the previous target pixel.

An image processing system includes a processor configured to: respectively obtain provisional positions of edges on both sides of a document in a main scanning direction from a preset reference position, from image information obtained by scanning a first surface of the document; respectively obtain provisional positions of edges on both sides of the document in the main scanning direction from the reference position, from image information obtained by scanning a second surface of the document; and respectively compare the provisional positions of the corresponding edges of the document in the main scanning direction and determine that there is an erroneous detection in the provisional positions of the edges in a case where the provisional positions of the corresponding edges are different from each other.
IMAGE SCANNING APPARATUS
A transportation device is configured to transport a document sheet along a transportation path. An image sensor is configured to optically scan an image at a predetermined scanning position in the transportation path and generate a scanned image that includes an image of the document sheet. An opposing member is arranged oppositely to the image sensor at the predetermined scanning position. An oblique motion detecting unit is configured to detect oblique motion of the document sheet on the basis of a shadow image of the document sheet that appears in a scanned image obtained by the image sensor. Further, the oblique motion detecting unit (a) derives a threshold value on the basis of a density of an image of the opposing member in the scanned image, and (b) detects the shadow image on the basis of the derived threshold value.
