A medium feeding device includes: a placement unit on which a medium is placed; a pair of edge guides that is provided at the placement unit such that the edge guides are movable in a medium width direction to guide edges of the medium in the medium width direction that is a direction intersecting a medium feeding direction; feeding rollers that feed the medium placed on the placement unit; a path state detection section that detects a detection value in accordance with a state of the medium feeding path; a guide position detection section that detects positions of the edge guides; and a control section that determines whether or not the detection value detected by the path state detection section has exceeded a threshold value.

An image forming apparatus includes a housing. From an upper surface of the housing, a plate-like rail part, which extends along the screw shaft to guide movement of the holding member, protrudes, and the holding member is provided with a guide part having a guide groove engaged with the rail part. The optical scanning device further includes a scraper member fixed to the holding member and scraping off foreign matters attached to the rail part, wherein the scraper member includes a pair of scraper pieces provided at both sides of the rail part while interposing the rail part therebetween and having distal end edges abutting a side surface of the rail part.

A captured image is obtained in which an adapter tray is captured which is fitted in a predetermined first area in a conveyance tray conveyed by a printing apparatus and has a second area fitted with a printing medium on which printing is performed by the printing apparatus. A shape of the second area is specified based on the captured image and information about the predetermined first area. Further, an image based on the specified shape of the second area is output.

In one embodiment, an image forming apparatus has a discharge portion and a guide member. The discharge portion has a space surrounded by wall surfaces of a chassis, and a side opening portion to open the space. The discharge portion receives a sheet to be discharged from a discharge port of the chassis, and houses the sheet in the space so that the sheet can be taken out from the side opening portion. The guide member is arranged at an end portion in the side opening portion, and extends toward upward from the rear side toward the front side of the chassis.

An image forming apparatus includes a housing. From an upper surface of the housing, a plate-like rail part, which extends along the screw shaft to guide movement of the holding member, protrudes, and the holding member is provided with a guide part having a guide groove engaged with the rail part. The optical scanning device further includes a scraper member fixed to the holding member and scraping off foreign matters attached to the rail part, wherein the scraper member includes a pair of scraper pieces provided at both sides of the rail part while interposing the rail part therebetween and having distal end edges abutting a side surface of the rail part.

An image reading device includes an opening/closing cover configured to open and close, a first roller that can convey a medium, a reading unit reads an image of the medium, and an elastic member that applies a force to the opening/closing cover in a direction of the closed state or the open state, where the opening/closing cover includes a guide portion that is longer than a length of the first roller in a width direction intersecting a conveying direction, in the closed state, the guide portion is displaceable to a first position of advancing to a conveyance path and a second position of retreating, and is applied with an elastic force so as to take the first position when the first medium is conveyed and take the second position when a second medium having higher rigidity than the first medium is conveyed.

An image-reading apparatus includes: a light-receiving unit that receives reflected light from a recording medium; a substrate that supports the light-receiving unit; an optical member that is located at a position different from a position of the substrate in a substrate thickness direction corresponding to a thickness direction of the substrate and that guides the reflected light from the recording medium to the light-receiving unit; and a supply unit that supplies cooling gas that is used to cool the substrate to the substrate. The cooling gas that is supplied to the substrate flows along the substrate.

An image reading apparatus including a reading unit comprising a photodetector configured to read an image information on a sheet, and a projecting portion, a case storing the photodetector therein, the case comprising a transparent portion configured to transmit light to be received by the photodetector, and a portion defining an opening through which the projecting portion is projected outward from the case, and an elastic portion provided to fill a space where the projecting portion is not present in the opening. The case movably stores the photodetector within a range where the projecting portion is movable in the opening.

An image reading device includes: a scanner configured to read an image formed on a sheet of paper; a first background member configured to reflect light emitted from the scanner; a colorimeter configured to take a color measurement of the image; a second background member configured to reflect light emitted from the colorimeter; a guide member configured to guide the sheet of paper passing between the colorimeter and the second background member; and a regulating member configured to regulate movement of the sheet of paper, wherein the regulating member includes: a first member including a rolling member; a second member including a rolling member; and a pressing member configured to press the first member and the second member against the guide member, and the pressing member is disposed in a position offset from axes of the first member and the second member.

A reading apparatus which is connected to an image forming apparatus that forms an image on a recording medium, the reading apparatus including: a supporting section which forms a reading surface for reading the image on the recording medium by contacting the recording medium on which the image is formed by the image forming apparatus; a conveyance section which conveys the recording medium so that the recording medium contacts the supporting section from a leading direction at a predetermined leading angle with respect to the reading surface and moves apart from the supporting section to an ejection direction at a predetermined ejection angle with respect to the reading surface; and a reading section which reads the image on the recording medium at a position where the reading surface is formed.
