An image-reading device, such as optical code readers used in retail environments to scan objects, is configured to select from various operational modes. The operational modes are selected based on an application of the image-reading device, such as optical code identification or image recognition. Red, white, and other color light sources are activated in patterns corresponding to an illumination sequence of the selected operational mode, while imagers are activated to capture an image based on an exposure pattern of the selected operational mode. Further, a repeating series of light pulses having different portions of light is provided. Various imagers are configured to capture images over one of the portions. This allows an operator to perceive one continuous light pattern, yet allows various imagers to capture an image under different light conditions used for different applications of the image-reading device.

An image processing apparatus that communicates with a chat server for controlling, based on received information indicating a talk room of the chat server and received information corresponding to a user, display of image data received from the user, in the talk room. The image processing apparatus includes a reception unit configured to receive predetermined information corresponding to the user, by transmitting authentication information for the user to log into a chat service, to the chat server, and a storage unit configured to store the predetermined information received by the reception unit, instead of the authentication information, in association with identification information for the user to log into the image processing apparatus. A document reading apparatus includes a first discharge tray that assumes a closed state or an open state, by pivoting about a first pivotal shaft, a first transport route linearly extending from a document tray to the first discharge tray, a first reading device that reads an image of the document, a transport device that transports the document through the first transport route, and a controller that, when an instruction to read the document is inputted to an input device, restricts the transport device from transporting the document and the first reading device from reading the image, when the closed state or a full state of the first discharge tray is detected by a first detector, and allows the transport device to transport the document and the first reading device to read the image, when neither of the closed state and the full state is detected by the first detector.

A document reading device that is capable of selectively designating a document reading process includes a sound output unit that gives notification of information needed for a document reading process that has been selected and a notification control unit that controls output from the sound output unit. When a specific document reading process has been selected, the notification control unit exercises control so that in a case where a device state of the document reading device is not the specific device state, notification information that prompts for the specific device state is outputted by the sound output unit after a predetermined period of time has elapsed since the specific document reading process was selected and so that in a case where the device state of the document reading device is the specific device state, notification information whose content prompts for the specific device state is not outputted by the sound output unit.

An image capturing method and an image capturing device using the same are provided. The image capturing method includes the following steps. Firstly, the image capturing device receives a paper sheet having a plurality of regions. Then, the image capturing device provides a user interface. An image reading apparatus comprising: an original reading unit configured to read an image of each of multiple originals placed on an original table in batch by a batch-scan; a cropping unit configured to crop an image of each original from an entire image which is read by the batch-scan; an image output unit configured to output a cropped image of each original; and a control unit configured to control the original reading unit, the cropping unit, and the image output unit, wherein the control unit makes the original reading unit read the image by a batch-scan in which an image density of an edge of each original is supposed to be higher than an image density of a reading-area outside of the original, and an area to be cropped is determined on the basis of a difference in the image density between the edge and the reading-area outside of the original.

A control method for controlling an image forming apparatus includes conveying a document placed on a document tray, reading an image on the conveyed document, printing the read image on a sheet, and binding the sheet on which the image is printed, and further includes detecting that the conveyed document is a bound document, according to the detection, suspending the conveyance of the document, and displaying a screen for prompting a user to start reading of the document of which the conveyance is suspended, wherein the screen is a screen capable of receiving a setting of a binding process to be executed.

The image reading device includes a reading section configured to read an image from a document, a control section configured to perform control related to the reading of the image from the document, a display section configured to display information, and a USB coupling section configured to couple with a USB cable. The control section control to switch to any one of a plurality of mode types.
