A system and method for scanning two or more documents into a single scan file includes a multifunction peripheral having an intelligent controller including a processor and associated memory. A scanner of the multifunction peripheral includes first and second document feed modes. A user interface includes a display, such as a touchscreen display. A first sensor detects a presence of a first tangible document in the first feed mode. A second sensor detects a second document in the second feed mode. The controller enables the first feed mode to complete a first scan operation and generates a digital image file comprising images of the first document. The controller generates a prompt on the display for a selection of a continued scan operation. If selected, the second feed mode completes a second scan operation on the second document and generates the digital image file to include images of the second document.

A storage unit stores the image data of the plurality of pages in association with information showing the opening direction that the first receiving unit receives. A second receiving unit receives an opening direction of printed matter from the user as a setting about printing of the image data stored in the storage unit. An indication unit indicates the opening direction that the information stored in the storage shows to the user when the second receiving unit receives the opening direction of the printed matter.

The control panel is configured to receive input designating the image corresponding to the image data and at least one other image from the plurality of images. An image reading apparatus includes a transport unit which transports a document, and reading units which read an image of the document which is transported. It is assumed that an operation of reading an image when specific setting information is not input to a control device of the image reading apparatus is set to a first reading mode, and an operation of reading an image when specific setting information is input to the control device is set to a second reading mode. In this case, in the second reading mode, image data of an image with a resolution which is equal to that in the first reading mode is generated, while causing the reading units to read an image from a document which is transported by the transport device at a lower speed than that in the first reading mode.

A system of automatically naming an electronic document may include a scanning device. The system may receive a physical document that is to be converted into an electronic document, perform optical character recognition on at least a portion of the physical document to identify one or more terms that are present in the physical document, and store the identified terms in the data store associated with the scanning device. The system may receive input from a user that includes one or more first characters and corresponds to a title of the electronic document. The system may identify one or more terms from the data store that correspond to the one or more first characters by querying the data store using the received input, and cause the identified terms to be displayed to the user via a display device of the scanning device as suggested document names for the electronic document.

An image reading apparatus includes a conveyor configured to convey an original, a reader configured to read the original conveyed by the conveyor, a detector configured to detect an abnormal image generated in a read image of the original obtained by the reader, a correction processor configured to correct the abnormal image, an operation unit configured to receive a setting of an operation mode set by a user, and a controller. The controller is configured to, in a case where the detector detects the abnormal image, control the correction processor to correct the abnormal image in a case in which a first operation mode of continuing image reading is set, and stop conveyance of the original performed by the conveyor and give a notification of generation of the abnormal image in a case in which a second operation mode of interrupting the image reading is set.
