Multi-mode scanning camera system and method

A multi-mode document scanning system includes a scanning bed configured to transport a plurality of documents through a scanning area. A scanning camera is configured to image the documents. At least one illumination bank includes a plurality of illumination elements of at least two different light wavelengths interspersed on at least one illumination bank. An image recording device includes a recorder, a reader and a hardware processor. The recorder records an image on a recording medium. The reader reads, with an imaging element, a surface of the recording medium and a surface of a predetermined reference member. The hardware processor calibrates the reader for a value to be detected by the imaging element, based on a reading result of the reading of the surface of the reference member. Further, the hardware processor performs the calibration in at least one of: a case where a type of the image to be recorded on the recording medium satisfies a predetermined image type condition; and a case where a predetermined reading influence factor which affects a reading result of the reading of the surface of the recording medium satisfies a predetermined reading influence factor condition.

An image-forming unit forms a referential image on a first sheet. A reading unit reads the referential image on the first sheet to generate referential read image data. A calibration unit calibrates input image data using calibration parameters derived based on the referential read image data. The image-forming unit forms a target image on a second sheet based on the calibrated data. The reading unit reads the target image on the second sheet to generate read image data for inspection. An inspection unit inspects quality of the target image based on comparison between the input image data and the read image data for inspection. The calibration parameters are derived based on the referential read image data to which flare correction has been applied. The inspection unit compares the input image data with the corrected read image data.

An object of the present invention is to detect the home position with a high accuracy without being affected by temperature. The present invention is an image reading apparatus having a reading portion, and the apparatus includes: an acquisition unit configured to acquire first data obtained by the reading portion reading a main scanning line in a state where a light source of the reading portion is turned on in a first light quantity, and second data obtained by the reading portion reading the main scanning line in a state where the light source of the reading portion is turned on in a second light quantity smaller than the first light quantity; a generation unit configured to generate difference data by subtracting the value of the second data from the value of the first data; and a determination unit configured to determine whether a mark arranged at a position corresponding to a home position of the reading portion has been detected on the main scanning line based on the difference data.

Streak compensation

Example implementations relate to streak compensation. Some examples may calibrate an initial gain for data from an optical element based on a scan of a first calibration target, obtain an image of a second calibration target from the optical element using the calibrated initial gain, and detect at least one streak in the image of the second calibration target. Some examples may also record data representing the at least one detected streak and may calibrate a final gain for the optical element based on the initial gain and the data representing the at least one detected streak.

A two-sided scanning device includes a first image scanning module, a second image scanning module, a first scanning background component, a first brightness calibration component, a second scanning background component, and a second brightness calibration component. When the second image scanning module moves relative to the first image scanning module to a scanning position, the second image scanning module drives the first scanning background component to move relative to the first image scanning module, so that the first image scanning module and the second image scanning module are aligned with the first scanning background component and the second scanning background component, respectively. Therefore, the first scanning background component and the second scanning background component can be scanning backgrounds for the first image scanning module and the second image scanning module to generate a scanning image of an object with a size corresponding to an actual size of the object.
