The image reading apparatus executes a scan job at the set scan speed. In addition, the image reading apparatus updates a scan counter in accordance with the number of pages of an image read at the set scan speed.

A photoelectric conversion element includes a first pixel array including first light-receiving sections arranged in a direction and a second pixel array including second light-receiving sections arranged in the direction. Each of the first light-receiving sections includes a first pixel configured to receive at least light having a first wavelength inside a visible spectrum and a first pixel circuit configured to transmit a signal from the first pixel to a subsequent stage. Each of the second light-receiving sections includes a second pixel configured to receive at least light having a second wavelength outside the visible spectrum and a second pixel circuit configured to transmit a signal from the second pixel to the subsequent stage. The multifunction peripheral of the present invention includes an ADF document crop function. According to this ADF document crop function, front side image shaping processing for cutting out a front side document image corresponding to the image on the front side of a document, from a front side read image of the document and for correcting the tilt of the front side document image is performed. Then, on the basis of shaping information in the front side image shaping processing, back side image shaping processing for cutting out a back side document image from a back side read image of the document and for correcting the tilt of the back side document image is performed.

The controller is capable of performing failure/no-failure determination for the image on the transfer medium based on the reading results, of switching image reading by the multiple image readers between reading by a first number of image readers and reading by a second number of image readers, the second number being smaller than the first number, and of enabling, while the second number of image readers perform reading, at least one of the other image readers to execute a maintenance operation for the at least one of the other image readers.

An image reading apparatus includes: an image reading device that reads a document and an area outside the document as an image; a background color plate that is read by the image reading device in the area outside the document; a document area decision device that determines a boundary between the document and background on the basis of a density difference or a color difference between the document and the background color plate in the read image, so as to decide a document area; and an image cropping device that crops a document image from the image on the basis of the document area. In the case where both of front and back sides of the document are read and the document area of one of the sides cannot be decided, the document area decision device applies the document area of the other side.

An image reading apparatus comprises a first reading unit configured to output an analog signal by reading an original, a second reading unit different from the first reading unit, a conversion unit configured to convert analog signals outputted from the first reading unit and the second reading unit to digital signals, a wire connection control unit configured to control wire connection between the first reading unit and the second reading unit, and the conversion unit, and an output control unit configured to control an output of an analog signal from the first reading unit.

An image reading apparatus includes a transparent member having a placement surface on which a document is to be placed, a reading unit configured to read an image of the document placed on the transparent member via the transparent member, and a reading mode in which an image of a document, placed in a holding member with a transparent portion, is read.
