Setting conditions related to reading of an image of a document are registered in association with a user according to input by a user. When a user is identified, the priority order is determined so that a setting condition corresponding to the identified user is prioritized over a setting condition not corresponding to the user among the registered setting conditions, and the setting condition information indicating the setting conditions in the determined priority is displayed. The image is read under the setting condition based on the setting condition information selected according to the input by the user of the setting condition information indicating the displayed setting conditions.

An image forming apparatus includes a reading device and a controller. The reading device reads an image of a source document, and generates image data. The controller receives an input of the image data generated by the reading device. Further, the controller decides that the source document is a chargeable item, when image information indicating that the source document is the chargeable item, for which charging a usage fee corresponding to the source document to a predetermined third party is permitted, is included in the image data.

An image reading apparatus includes: a reading unit that reads an image of a document placed on a platen for placing documents; and a display unit that displays part of the image of the document read by the reading unit in a range adjacent to a range, in which the document is placed, of the platen.

An image recording device stores correspondence information associating a plurality of status information types, output determination information and request type information. An image forming apparatus includes a connection portion to which a first optional device and a second optional device are selectively detachably connectable, and a determination portion configured to determine whether to prohibit an operation of the image forming apparatus. A plurality of first optional devices are stacked and connectable to the image forming apparatus. The second optional device is installed on a floor and is connectable to the first optional device. A document reader system configured to capture an image of a document is described. The document reader system includes a document reader having a transparent scan area, a light source, an optical filter, and an image sensor. The transparent scan area is configured to receive the document on a first side of the transparent scan area. The light source is positioned on a second side of the transparent scan area opposite the first side and is configured to emit light towards the transparent scan area. The optical filter is positioned between the light source and the transparent scan area and has a variable light transmission configured to modify light intensity of the light emitted by the light source. The image sensor positioned on the second side of the transparent scan area and configured to capture the image of the document on the first side of the transparent scan area.

An image forming apparatus that reads a print position adjustment chart using an auto document feeder (ADF) and specifies an appropriate image reading size to include paper edges of the chart is provided.

In an image processing system, an image reading apparatus determines whether an error occurs on a read image that is an image read by an image sensor, and generates and transmits data including the read image and error information that is information indicating presence or absence of occurrence of the error, and an image processing apparatus receives the data and performs, on the read image, image processing corresponding to the presence or absence of occurrence of the error, based on the error information.
