The first scanner 2A includes a reception unit 221 that receives instruction data CM instructing reading of an image for which the first folder 131 is specified as the storage destination for read data, an acquisition unit 222 that, when the reception unit 221 receives the instruction data CM, accesses to the first folder 131 of the personal computer 1 and acquires the first reading setting information 131A from the first folder 131, a setting unit 223 that sets a reading condition based on the first reading setting information 131A, and a reading unit 224 that reads out an image and generates read data under the reading condition.

An image processing apparatus includes a reading unit configured to read a document, a processing unit configured to perform character recognition processing of recognizing characters included in an image of the document read by the reading unit, an identification unit configured to identify transfer destination information regarding a transfer destination and a transfer amount from a result obtained by the character recognition processing performed by the processing unit, a transmission unit configured to transmit the transfer destination information regarding the transfer destination and the transfer amount which are identified by the identification unit, a storage unit configured to store the transfer destination information regarding the transfer destination, and an object display unit configured to display an object to call the transfer destination information regarding the transfer destination stored in the storage unit.

An image forming apparatus includes a line sensor capable of reading a sheet being conveyed. A signal processing circuit generates, based on respective analog picture signals of pixels and in order of sequence of the pixels, detection signals each indicating whether or not a reflecting object has been read. A first counting circuit measures a duration time which is a time during which the detection signals maintain a level indicating that the reflecting object has been read. When the duration time reaches or exceeds a first specified time, the first counting circuit changes a level of a first detection result signal to a level indicating necessity of cleaning. A unit control circuit determines, based on the level of the first detection result signal, whether or not cleaning is necessary.

An image forming apparatus includes a printing unit, a reading unit, a verification unit, and a control unit. The printing unit prints an image on a recording sheet. The reading unit reads the image printed by the printing unit. The verification unit verifies the image read by the reading unit. The control unit performs control to cause information, indicating that the image read by the reading unit is not to be verified by the verification unit, to be printed on the recording sheet with the image. When the reading unit reads the information, the control unit performs control so that the image is not to be verified by the verification unit.

An image reading apparatus includes a stacking tray, a feeding roller, a restricting member configured to move to a restricting position and a retracted position, a reading sensor, a reversing roller configured to perform a reversing operation, a first conveyance path, a second conveyance, and a controller. The controller is configured to permit the reversing operation if the controller receives an execution instruction of a double-sided reading job on a sheet having a first size, and prohibit the reversing operation if the controller receives an execution instruction of the double-sided reading job on a sheet having a second size smaller than the first size.

A duplex scan indicative scanner includes a sheet passage, a transporting mechanism, one single scanning module, a duplex indicator and a connection interface. The transporting mechanism transports a document past the sheet passage. The scanning module scans a first side of the document passing through the sheet passage. The connection interface is electrically connected to an electronic device, the duplex indicator, the transporting mechanism and the scanning module. After the electronic device has controlled, through the connection interface, the scanning module to scan the first side, the electronic device controls, through the connection interface, the duplex indicator to output a duplex indication message to guide a user to place the document or a second document, so that a second side of the document or the second document is scanned by the scanning module. A duplex scan indicative scanning apparatus and a duplex scan indicative scanning method are also provided.

An image reading apparatus acquires first image data of a background portion stored in advance and read by a reading unit, acquires second image data by reading the background portion, generates third image data by increasing resolution of the first image data and fourth image data by increasing resolution of the second image data, detects an amount of shift of an image sensor relative to a lens array in a predetermined direction by shifting a specific pixel range of the fourth image data relative to the third image data and comparing the specific pixel range with the third image data, and compares fifth image data obtained by shifting the fourth image data in accordance with the shift amount with the third image data, so as to determine whether each of pixels included in the fifth image data is a defective pixel having an abnormal value.

There is provided an image processing apparatus. A changing unit changes settings relative to image data generated by a reading unit for reading a document, in a case where it is not possible to store the image data in a predetermined memory. An image processing unit performs image processing on the image data generated according to the changed settings. A display displays a preview image of the image data subjected to the image processing in the case where it is possible to store the processed image data in the memory.

An image forming apparatus includes a line sensor capable of reading a sheet being conveyed. A character recognition device is configured to convert characters on a scanned image obtained by reading a document into digital data. The character recognition device includes control circuitry. The control circuitry is configured to perform character recognition processing on the scanned image; generate data in which candidate characters or character strings of a character or character string recognized by the character recognition processing are associated with recognition degrees representing probabilities of the candidate characters or character strings; display a first candidate having a highest recognition degree among the candidate characters or character strings; and generate a document file in a format in which another candidate, other than the first candidate, of the candidate characters or character strings is displayed simultaneously with the first candidate, in association with the first candidate, and in a form different from a form of the first candidate.
