A control unit controls the apparatus to operate in one of at least a first power saving state, a second power saving state, and a normal state. In the first power saving state, the apparatus is controlled so that an image forming unit, an image reading unit, and the control unit are not activated, and a communication device is activated. In the second power saving state, the apparatus is controlled so that at least one of the image forming unit and the image reading unit are not activated, and the communication device and the control unit are activated. In the normal state, the apparatus is controlled so that at least the image forming unit, the image reading unit, the communication device, and the control unit are activated.

An information processing apparatus includes a processor configured to: cause the information processing apparatus to make transition from a first mode to a second mode with less energy consumption than the first mode when a non-detection period in which presence of a user is not detected around the information processing apparatus has reached a preset threshold period; and continue to measure the non-detection period when the presence of the user is detected and a preset condition is satisfied while the non-detection period is being measured before reaching the threshold period.

An apparatus, such as an image forming apparatus, includes a Universal Serial Bus (USB) host interface configured to connect to a USB device, a direct current to direct current (DC-DC) converter configured to supply power to the USB device connected to the USB host interface, and a control unit configured to switch the DC-DC converter from a pulse width modulation (PWM) mode to a pulse frequency modulation (PFM) mode based on a type of the USB device connected to the USB host interface.

An apparatus that causes a device to print an image includes at least one processor, and a display screen. A state of the apparatus is changed from a first state to a second state when an image is settled as a print target by a user, the first state being a state in which the at least one processor does not cause the device to print the image even if the apparatus is put close to the device, and the second state being a state in which the at least one processor can cause the device to print the image if the apparatus is put close to the device. After the apparatus in the second state performs a short distance wireless communication with the device, the device prints the image.

A non-transitory computer-readable recording medium stores a program executable by an information processing apparatus configured to communicate with a device including a first element and a second element, the second element being configured to receive power from a power source, and the first element being configured to receive the power from the power source via the second element. An information processing apparatus includes a processor configured to, in a case where a time specified processing instruction to execute a specified process at a specified time is set, in response to detecting presence of a user near the information processing apparatus upon restoration from an energy save mode to a normal operation mode, hold a time specified processing instruction scheduled for a past specified time that is time before the restoration, the time specified processing instruction being held not to be executed upon the restoration.
