An image reading device includes: a housing, a document loading surface, a reading unit, a first through hole, a second through hole, an insertion member, and a first member. The first through hole is provided in a manner such as to be pierced through the housing. The second through hole is provided oppositely to the first through hole in a manner such as to be pierced through the reading unit located at a predefined place. When being inserted in the first through hole and the second through hole, the insertion member stops movement of the reading unit in a horizontal direction and fixes the reading unit in the housing. The first member closes the first through hole and has a shape deforming in accordance with the insertion of the insertion member in the first through hole and the second through hole.

Provided is a more desirable product. A scanner has a first sensor configured to read a document on a platen glass; a second sensor configured to read a first side of a moving document; and a third sensor configured to read a second side, which is the opposite side as the first side, of a moving document. The first sensor forms a reduced size image of the document; and the second sensor and third sensor image form a same-size image of light from the document.

An image reader includes: a reading section reading a document; a document conveyance section being supported in an openable and closable manner with respect to the reading section; foamed synthetic resin members being supported on a lower surface of the document conveyance section; a document pressing plate being fitted to the document conveyance section with the foamed synthetic resin members in between; and height regulation sections being formed at the document conveyance section and being pressed by second platen glass with the document pressing plate in between, wherein the height regulation sections are located at positions overlapping with a region of the second platen glass when the document conveyance section is in a closed state.

An image reading apparatus includes an image scanning unit that is provided with a holding portion holding a flexible flat cable. The holding portion is protruded toward an upstream side in a sub scanning direction, and provided with a second wall part. The flexible flat cable that is extended from a connector is brought into contact with the second wall part. As for the flexible flat cable, a downward movement is regulated by a lower holding portion and an upward movement is regulated by an upper holding portion. Accordingly, the flexible flat cable does not rise.

An image reading apparatus according to an embodiment includes an image reading unit that generates reference data by reading a reference surface and generates image data by reading a sheet. A reference plate includes the reference surface for generating the reference data for shading correction of the image reading unit and a background surface for background of a sheet to be read to generate the image data. A control unit controls the positions of the image reading unit and the reference plate to be at a first position relative to each other when the reference data is to be generated and at a second position relative to each other when the image data is to be generated. The second position is different from the first position. A shading correction unit performs the shading correction in the image reading unit based on the generated reference data.

An image processing apparatus obtains image data by photographing a document which is put on a document plate. The apparatus includes an obtaining unit and a correction unit. The obtaining unit photographs the document plate and obtains calibration image data. The correction unit uses the calibration image data obtained by the obtaining unit, so as to correct the image data obtained by photographing the document which is put on the document plate.

A scanner cover including a first plate and a second plate is provided. The first plate has a first surface; multiple compressible and deformable elastic structures are arranged protruding on the first surface. The second plate is stacked on the first plate and the second plate has a second surface facing to the first surface, the elastic structures are contacted with the second surface, and deformation of each elastic structure is contained in the second plate while the elastic structures are compressed. While the first plate and the second plate are pressed to move close to each other, the elastic structures are compressed and a restoring force is thereby provided between the first plate and the second plate.

An automatic document feeder, which is included in an image reading device and an image forming apparatus, includes first and second document trays, a document output tray, a document conveying passage, multiple document conveying bodies, a drive source, a detector, and a controller. The multiple document conveying bodies include a document holding and conveying body to convey and hold the original document sheet on the second document tray. On detection of the original document sheet on the second document tray while conveying a different original document sheet from the first document tray, the controller stops feeding the different original document sheet, causes the different original document sheet downstream from the document holding and conveying body in a document conveying direction to be conveyed to the document output tray, and stops the drive source after the different original document has been conveyed to the document output tray.

An image reading apparatus, including: a conveyance unit configured to convey a document along a conveyance path; a transparent plate provided to the conveyance path; a reading unit configured to read an image of the document passing the transparent plate; a detector configured to detect a foreign substance on the transparent plate from image data output from the reading unit; a light source provided to one end side face of the transparent plate; and a controller configured to control lighting-up of the light source based on a detection result of the detector.
