A scan task system includes a plurality of imaging devices, including MFDs, dedicated scanners, or mobile phones with scanning or camera functions. The system notifies a user or a number of users when a particular document needs to be scanned and transmitted to a specific destination. A scan task is sent to available imaging devices, and will appear when the user logs in at any imaging device on the network. When a user executes the scan task at any one of the imaging devices, the scan task is removed from all devices. The scan task can be pre-programmed to appropriately file or send a scanned document when the scan is executed.

An image processing apparatus communicates with a chat server configured to control sharing of received image data in a transmission destination group based on received information about the group. The image processing apparatus includes a registration unit configured to register a group of the chat server in association with an object, the group serving as a transmission destination of image data, an obtaining unit configured to obtain identification information corresponding to the group from the chat server, a display unit configured to display the registered object, and a transmission unit configured to transmit, if the displayed object is selected, the image data and the information about the group serving as the transmission destination to the chat server. An image processing apparatus that communicates with a chat server which controls displaying of received image data in a talk room of a chat service provided by the chat server, based on received information about the talk room, and controls transmission of a notification, based on received user information on a notification destination user, the image processing apparatus includes a reading unit configured to read an image of a document to generate image data based on the image, a registration unit configured to register the talk room of the chat service and the notification destination user in association with an object, and a transmission unit configured to transmit the image data generated by reading of the reading unit, the information about the talk room, and the user information on the communication destination user to the chat server, in response to selection of the object.
