An image forming apparatus which implements a plurality of functions includes: storage with a prescribed storage area; an operating system which implements at least some of the functions by allocating a part of the prescribed storage area for a plurality of processes and executing the processes; and a storage area managing section which predicts an amount of consumed memory in response to generation of a job and determines whether or not the amount of consumed memory is allocable to the job in the prescribed storage area. The job is a processing target for the image forming apparatus. The amount of consumed memory is used for processing the job by the image forming apparatus. When determining that the amount of consumed memory is not allocable, the storage area managing section ends at least one process which is not used to process the job to make the amount of predicted memory allocable.

The apparatus determines, on the basis of a black pixel density of the binary image included in the character clipping rectangle, whether or not the character clipping rectangle is a character region and determines, on the basis of a number of pixels included in the character clipping rectangle determined to be a non-character region, whether or not the character clipping rectangle determined to be a non-character region is a character region.

History generating apparatus and history generating method
A history generating apparatus includes an image generating section, an image reading section and a history generating section. The image generating section generates a bitmap first image and generates initial attribute information indicating attributes of respective pixels of the first image. The image reading section reads an image based on the first image formed on paper so as to generate a bitmap second image. The history generating section separates the second image into image regions by attribute indicated by the initial attribute information, performs image processing on each of the image regions according to the attribute and combines the image regions so as to generate a history image.
