A card reading device and a card reading system. The card reading device includes an image scanner to read an image of a card. In the card reading device, the image scanner is usable when the card reading device is attached to a data receiving apparatus that receives data of the image scanned by the image scanner. In the card reading device, the image scanner is usable when the card reading device is detached from the data receiving apparatus. The card reading system includes the card reading device and the data receiving apparatus that receives the data of the image scanned by the image scanner.

An image forming apparatus comprising a display and a reader that reads an IC card. The image forming apparatus performs settings for user authentication and displays on the display a menu screen for selecting a function of the image forming apparatus. In a case where in user authentication by the IC card and automatic registration of user information are set in the settings, a user of an IC card is able to log in the image forming apparatus using information of the IC card when the reader detects the IC card of the user.

A multi-function device (MFD) is disclosed. For example, the MFD includes a communication interface to establish a communication path with an authentication server, a user interface to receive document control information for a document to be generated, a processor, and a non-transitory computer-readable medium storing a plurality of instructions. The instructions when executed by the processor cause the processor to generate a machine readable code that contains the document control information for the document and print the machine readable code onto the document that is printed by the MFD.

Methods and system are described for fax transmission distribution. In one embodiment, the electronic message receives, over a circuit-switched network, an incoming call signal that identifies a fax telephone number as an outbound address, where the fax telephone number is uniquely and permanently associated to a user. The device receives an incoming fax transmission associated with the incoming call signal, where the incoming fax transmission includes a fax message in a fax suitable format, where the fax message is associated with the user. The device transmits, over a computer network, an electronic message that includes the fax message and the fax telephone number to a destination address based on the fax telephone number.

Methods and systems are described for receiving and distributing incoming fax transmissions. In one embodiment, an electronic device receives, over a computer network, an electronic message that includes an electronic document and a fax telephone number of an organization of a plurality of organizations, wherein the fax telephone number is) permanently associated with the organization and 2) uniquely identifies the organization from other organizations in the plurality of other organizations. The device determines a destination address of the organization based on the fax telephone number and transmits the electronic document and the fax telephone number to the destination address.

A management apparatus that manages a plurality of image forming apparatuses, the management apparatus includes: a storage that stores histories of user operations on the image forming apparatuses for the plurality of image forming apparatuses, respectively; and a hardware processor that determines an image forming apparatus recommended to be operated from among the plurality of image forming apparatuses based on the histories of the user operations of the image forming apparatuses and outputs a notification indicating the determined recommended image forming apparatus.

A supply item has toner for use in an imaging device. A chip has memory storing quanta indicating allowed usage of the supply item over its lifetime and a multiplier correlating the quanta to toner mass. The imaging device requires quanta to conduct imaging operations and loads the quanta and multiplier by way of a certificate stored in the memory. The imaging device retrieves quanta from the chip over time and both devices keep tally. Initialization between the supply item and imaging device includes providing encrypted and unencrypted instances of firmware versions and certificates from the supply item that the imaging device can compare for security. Alternatively, the supply item defines a fuser assembly, imaging unit, intermediate transfer member, or other component installed for use in the imaging device.

An image forming apparatus includes: a storage that stores a job that is encrypted; and a hardware processor that: decrypts the encrypted job read from the storage, executes the decrypted job, upon detecting a cyberattack during execution of the decrypted job, identifies a target of the cyberattack, and switches an operation related to the decrypted job being executed based on the target.

An image processing apparatus is communicable with a service providing server that provides a service, and includes a hardware-processor, wherein the hardware-processor acquires authentication success information representing a successful login to the service in response to an operation input by a user, executes an image process, and sets an operation state to an operable state in which an operation for executing the image process is acceptable in accordance with the authentication success information in response to acquisition of the authentication success information.

An image processing apparatus includes a controller, a display, and a job executor that executes a job at a predetermined setting based on setting information for job execution sent from a terminal device, wherein the controller starts up, an application in response to a startup instruction, generates apparatus information including identification information on the image processing apparatus based on the started application, displays the generated apparatus information on the display for the terminal device, and controls the job executor to output the job at a predetermined setting based on setting information for job execution sent from the terminal device having read the displayed apparatus information, and terminates the application when a termination determination time has elapsed after startup of the application.
