Tonal palette generation

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for receiving, by a palette generation module of a computing system, an input color value that represents an input color. The module identifies a first palette from a plurality of reference palettes that each include a set of colors. The first palette is identified using the input color. In response to identifying the first palette, the module selects a particular color of the first palette based on a minimum computed distance between the input color and the colors of the first palette. The module generates a second palette that includes a second set of colors. The second palette is generated by interpolating the first color palette based on the minimum computed distance used to select the particular color of the first palette.

Detecting in an environment a matrix having a least prevalent color

Techniques to improve detection and security of images, including formation and detection of matrix-based images. A matrix may be detected in an environment. The matrix may comprise a plurality of colors. The plurality of colors may include a least prevalent color, of a plurality of colors in the environment.

Adjustments to encoding and decoding when switching color spaces

Innovations in encoding or decoding when switching color spaces are presented. For example, some of the innovations relate to signaling of control information for adaptive color space transformation (“ACT”). Other innovations relate to ACT operations. These innovations can improve coding efficiency when switching between color spaces during encoding and decoding.

The present disclosure includes systems and methods for color transfer. The method includes receiving a target image, and determining dominant source colors. The method further includes transforming the target image into a color model including a target luminance component and a target color information component. Additionally, the method includes segmenting the target image into a plurality of target segments based on the target color information component or the target luminance component and extracting dominant target colors from the target image by extracting information for at least one of the dominant target colors from each target segment of the plurality of target segments. Further, the method includes generating a color mapping relationship between the dominant target colors and the dominant source colors, and creating a recolored target image using the color mapping relationship.

A method, apparatus, and non-transitory computer readable medium for color reduction based on image segmentation are described. The method, apparatus, and non-transitory computer readable medium may provide for segmenting an input image into a plurality of regions, assigning a weight to each region, identifying one or more colors for each of the regions, selecting a color palette based on the one or more colors for each of the regions and the corresponding weight for each of the regions, and performing a color reduction on the input image using the selected color palette to produce a color reduced image. The weight assigned to each region may depend on factors including relevance, prominence, focus, position, or any combination thereof.
