VIDEO DISPLAY DEVICE AND VIDEO DISPLAY METHOD
A video display device includes: a video receiver that obtains video data including a video and dynamic luminance characteristics indicating a time-dependent change in luminance characteristics of the video; a tone mapping processor that, in the case where a luminance region having a luminance less than or equal to a first luminance is defined as a low luminance region, and a luminance region having a luminance exceeding the first luminance is defined as a high luminance region, (i) performs first tone mapping using first conversion characteristics when first luminance characteristics exceed a predetermined threshold value, and (ii) performs second tone mapping using second conversion characteristics when the first luminance characteristics are less than or equal to the predetermined threshold value.
Method and apparatus for generating encoded content using dynamically optimized conversion for 3D movies
The present invention pertains to an apparatus and method for adding a graphic element, such as a subtitle to selected locations of the frames in a 3D movie. The authoring tool receives a depth map indicating the position of various objects in the frames of 3D content along a Z-axis. The authoring device then designates a position for at least one additional graphic element in at least some of the frames, these positions being determined in relation either to the positions of the objects or the position of the screen along said Z-axis. An encoder uses parameters from the authoring tool to reauthor the 3D movie by adding the graphic content to the positions designated by the parameters.
Eye tracking enabled smart closed captioning
Systems and methods for controlling closed captioning using an eye tracking device are provided. The system for controlling closed captioning may comprise a display device, a closed captioning controller configured to display closed captioning text for a media item during playback on the display device, and an eye tracking device configured to detect a location of a user's gaze relative to the display device and send the location to the closed captioning controller. The closed captioning controller may be configured to recognize a predetermined gaze pattern of the user's gaze and, upon detecting the predetermined gaze pattern, partially or completely deemphasize the display of the closed captioning text.
Video processing method, device and image system
An image processing method includes, when an edit triggering event for a target image is detected, acquiring description information associated with the target image. The description information includes interference information that affects image quality occurred in a shooting process of the target image. The method further includes editing image clips in the target image which are associated with respective interference information of the description information to obtain a processed target image.
Data generation method, data reproduction method, data generation device and data reproduction device
A data generation method is for generating video data that covers a second luminance dynamic range wider than a first luminance dynamic range and has reproduction compatibility with a first device that does not support reproduction of video having the second luminance dynamic range and supports reproduction of video having the first luminance dynamic range, and includes: generating a video signal to be included in the video data using a second OETF; storing, into VUI in the video data, first transfer function information for identifying a first OETF to be referred to by the first device when the first device decodes the video data; and storing, into SEI in the video data, second transfer function information for identifying a second OETF to be referred to by a second device supporting reproduction of video having the second luminance dynamic range when the second device decodes the video data.
Playback method and playback device
A playback method according to one aspect of the present disclosure is performed by a playback device connected to a display device. The playback method includes obtaining a type of the display device; selecting each of a version of High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) and a version of High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP), according to the obtained type of the display device; obtaining a video signal of content recorded on a recording medium; decoding the obtained video signal; encrypting the decoded video signal using the selected version of HDCP; and outputting the encrypted video signal to the display device using the selected version of HDMI.

Apparatus and method for switching video signal
A video signal switching apparatus includes a signal selection device which selectively outputs received multiple video signals to its first and second output ports; and a signal switching device, which includes first and second signal conversion devices coupled to the first and second output ports, and a switch which selectively couples the first or second signal conversion device to a switch output. The first signal conversion device receives a first video signal having a first format from the first output port and converts it to a first converted video signal having a second format. While the switch selectively couples the first converted video signal from the first signal conversion device to the switching output, the second signal conversion device receives a second video signal having a first format from the second output port and converts it to a second converted video signal having the second signal format.

Systems and methods for increasing the persistence of forensically relevant video information on space limited storage media
In one embodiment, the present invention is a place-and-forget, unattended, unmonitored digital video recording device. In this embodiment the device is positioned to video record an area of interest, such as a building site, a high crime area, a problem traffic area, a large gathering of people, etc. As the device is unmonitored, if there is no activity of interest in the area of interest, no man-hours have been used. If there is some activity of interest, such as a traffic accident, vandalism, employee theft, terrorist attack, etc. the device's hard drive can be retrieved and the video recording viewed. The device stores more data (higher quality) of recent video recordings than it does of older video recordings. In this manner the current invention can retain forensically relevant video recordings for a longer period of time than current art.
