A method including: detecting a request for a first part of a video; detecting a request for a second part of the video, wherein the video has a video timeline and the second part of the video immediately follows the first part of the video in the video timeline; after detecting the request for the first part of the video and prior to detecting the request for the second part of the video, transmitting a request for a third part of the video, wherein the third part of the video follows the second part of the video in the video timeline; receiving the requested third part of the video; and storing the received third part of the video.

Systems and methods provide for editing of spherical video data. In one example, a computing device can receive a spherical video (or a video associated with an angular field of view greater than an angular field of view associated with a display screen of the computing device), such as by a built-in spherical video capturing system or acquiring the video data from another device. The computing device can display the spherical video data. While the spherical video data is displayed, the computing device can track the movement of an object (e.g., the computing device, a user, a real or virtual object represented in the spherical video data, etc.) to change the position of the viewport into the spherical video. The computing device can generate a new video from the new positions of the viewport.

The invention is directed to a cloud-connected dash camera (dashcam) system with continuous recording capability. The dashcam system is configured to record video segments in sync with GPS position data, upload the record video segments in sync with GPS position data to a backend server, and display the recorded video segments in sync with a GPS position on a map to an external computing device through a frontend graphical user interface.
