The display apparatus includes: a display, a remote control, a communicator, an input interface and a controller, the controller is configured to perform: receiving a channel switch instruction generated from an input number, taking the input number as a digital channel number for a first round of channel search, and determining whether a first channel corresponding to the digital channel number exists in a channel table stored in the display apparatus; in response to the first channel not existing in the channel table, further processing the input number to obtain a processed input number and taking processed input number as a physical channel number for a second round of channel search; and in response to the first channel existing in the channel table, control the display to play content from the first channel.

Media content typically includes closed captioning information such as subtitled in domestic and foreign languages. Techniques and mechanisms provide that closed captioning information may be toggled on/off using menu options and preferences as well as automatically managed by intelligently monitoring the environment surrounding a device. Device sensors such as microphones and vibration monitors determine the noise level of an environment as well as the spectral characteristics of the noise to determine whether the noise profile would interfere with the video playback experience. A particular environmental noise profile could automatically trigger the display of closed captioning information or present an easy access, otherwise unavailable toggle to display closed captioning information associated with a video stream.

A subtitle processing method, comprising: receiving an identification code of a video the uploaded by a client; searching and finding out whether a subtitle file corresponding to the identification code exists or not in a video subtitle mapping database; if the subtitle file corresponding to the identification code is found, returning the subtitle search result to the client; or if no subtitle file corresponding to the identification code is found, searching for another identification code located in the same aggregation result for the identification code from a video aggregation database; according to the other identification code, searching and finding out whether a subtitle file corresponding thereto exists or not in the video subtitle mapping database; and returning the subtitle search result to the client. Method and apparatus for generation of interactive programming. An interactive programming server embeds interactive components into a video signal. The interactive programming server receives content from a content source and interactive components from an interactive component source and uses the content and interactive components to generate an interactive Video On Demand (iVOD) interactive program. The iVOD interactive program is transmitted to a participant who views the content and interacts with the interactive components of the iVOD interactive program. The participant's responses to the content is transmitted back to the interactive programming server where the participant responses are incorporated into new content which is used to generate new iVOD interactive programming.

Method and apparatus for generation of interactive programming. An interactive programming server embeds interactive components into a video signal. The interactive programming server receives content from a content source and interactive components from an interactive component source and uses the content and interactive components to generate an interactive Video On Demand (iVOD) interactive program. In one aspect, an example method involves a computing device accessing first data representing a program schedule of a media program; accessing second data representing closed-captioning text of the media program; making a determination that first text of the program schedule has at least a threshold extent of similarity with second text of the closed-captioning text, where a portion of the media program was recorded proximate a time when a portion of the second data representing the second text of the closed-captioning text was generated; using the first text of the program schedule as a basis to select a portion of the program schedule; and responsive to at least the determination, storing third data indicative of a correlation between the selected portion of the program schedule and the recorded portion of the media program.
