Method and system for providing content to a content distribution system suitable for a multiple dwelling unit using an authorization list
09800838 · 2017-10-24 · ·

A communication system 10 includes a head end 12 that generates a device list with channel or content authorizations. The head end communicates the list to a system gateway 26. The gateway 26 receives the list. A plurality of user devices 28 is coupled to the gateway 26. A first device of the plurality of user devices generates a channel or content request at the system gateway. The gateway 26 compares the channel or content authorizations from the list to the channel request from the first user device and communicates to the first user device a channel or content corresponding to the channel request in response to comparing. Thus, authorized users are able to receive the channel or content in response to the list. The list may be generated at a subscriber information module 52 and communicated with the content or channel through a satellite 18 or through a communication network 50.

LINEAR MEDIA SELECTION

In a substitutional media system, one of a set of media items is selected at a programme receiver for output within a predefined programming slot, based on profile data available at the receiver. Sets of the media items are scheduled to slots according to one or more constraints pertaining to that slot and/or to media items scheduled to other slots. The receiver may select a media item for output in a slot by resolving constraints with media items scheduled to other slots, or selected for output in other slots.

DATA TRANSMISSION METHOD AND APPARATUS
20170295029 · 2017-10-12 ·

The present disclosure discloses a data transmission method and apparatus. User equipment (UE) measures and transmits a transmission delay to a group communication service application server (GCS AS), or the GCS AS itself determines a transmission delay, so that the GCS AS may determine, according to the transmission delay, a time of sending a packet on a multicast path or a unicast path. Therefore, a problem of out of order of packets or a loss of a packet due to a transmission delay is resolved, and continuity of a communication service is maintained.

A system and method of distributing electronic content includes a network operations center communicating national feeds to an over-the-air broadcast center through a satellite. The over-the-air broadcast center receives the national feeds from the satellite and broadcasts the national feeds to a user device through a cellular tower wireless transmitter.

RS-DVR systems and methods for unavailable bitrate signaling and edge recording

A remote storage digital video recorder (RS-DVR) system is disclosed. The RS-DVR system includes a network interface to communicate data between the RS-DVR system and a subscriber system via a network, a file system module coupled to the network interface, an ingest agent coupled to the file system module to receive encoded media segments that represent media content files encoded at a plurality of different bitrates; and a storage architecture coupled to the file system to store the encoded media segments, resulting in stored media segments. The RS-DVR carries out a number of functions and operations to service multiple subscribers and associated subscriber systems, such as various storage device management operations, file structure techniques, assignment of recorded media to subscribers, file system indexing, and supporting shared and per-subscriber content rights.

MOVIE ADVERTISING PLAYBACK SYSTEMS AND METHODS

An ad in a movie can be a static ad having a position in the movie that cannot be moved, or a dynamic ad having a position in the movie that can be changed. When a viewer wishes to skip a portion of the movie containing the ad, the playback system determines whether the ad is static or dynamic. If the ad is static, only the portion of the movie preceding the static ad can be skipped; the ad is unskippable. This technique is referred to as “bounceback” since the end of the skip bounces back to the start of the static ad. If the ad is dynamic, it is moved to after the end of the skip. This technique is referred to as “slip-ad” since the ad slips to later in the movie. When a movie has multiple ads, some can be static and some can be dynamic.

Methods, systems, and devices for securing content

Methods, systems, and devices secure content in memory. The content includes a lock that prohibits reading the content from memory. Prior to expiration of the lock the content cannot be read from memory. However, a preview option allows at least a portion of the content to be accessed. The preview option provides a preview of the content. At expiration, the content is readable.

Method and apparatus for targeting of interactive virtual objects

A method and an apparatus are used to target interactive virtual objects to subscribers in a television delivery system. Programs are selected and virtual object locations are defined in the selected programs. The virtual objects available for targeting are categorized and the categories are correlated to subscriber information to determine the optimum targeting of the virtual objects. The virtual objects may be targeted based on individual subscriber information or on information related to groups of subscribers. When a frame of a program includes a virtual object location, a default or an alternate virtual object is displayed. The virtual object location may change over space or time. The virtual object may be interactive, and may be used to link a subscriber to a remote location, such as an Internet web site. An operations center or a cable headend may generate a group assignment plan that assigns the subscribers' television terminals to groups, based on factors such as area of dominant influence and household income. A retrieval plan is then generated that instructs the television terminals to select the desired virtual object for display. The television terminals record which virtual objects were displayed, and report this information to the cable headends and the operations center. The reported information is used to generate billing for commercial advertisers, and to analyze viewer watching habits. Interactive virtual objects are received by the television terminal with directions on actions to be taken upon selection of the interactive virtual object. Actions may result in the initiation of processes locally at the television terminal, or communication with a remote site for the initiation of processes to be performed remotely. The invention uses upstream data reception hardware, databases and processing hardware and software, and corresponding features in the televisions to accomplish these functions.
