MULTIMEDIA SYSTEMS, METHODS AND APPLICATIONS
Systems and methods according to exemplary embodiments of the present invention provide a user interface including an electronic program guide and scrollable visual directories.
Hybrid all digital fiber to CATV cable system and method
Producing advanced HFC CATV cable systems while easing the burden of backward compatibility. The system improves CATV data carrying capacity by moving RF QAM modulators from the cable head end to various individually or group addressed optical fiber nodes supplying neighborhood CATV cables, and sending data from the cable head IP backbone to the nodes over optical fiber as IP data packets. For high backward compatibility, the system digitizes legacy RF waveforms, or demodulates legacy QAM waveforms to QAM symbols, also transmits these over the optical fiber as IP data packets, and then reconstitutes back to original waveforms as needed. The system is thus able to easily handle legacy NTSC, FM, QPSK waveforms and do partial (QAM symbol level) compression of legacy QAM waveforms to and from multiple nodes without requiring additional optical fiber wavelengths. The system may use non-standard upstream/downstream CATV frequency splits, filter bank receivers, and FPGA/DSP/ASIC methods.
Icon-based home certification, in-home leakage testing, and antenna matching pad
A method for determining the magnitude of leakage in a subscriber's premises CATV installation; a frequency multiplexer for coupling between an antenna and a receiver for the multiplexed frequencies; and, a method for a technician to certify a CATV subscriber's premises for the provision of CATV services are disclosed.
Initializing, provisioning, and managing devices
A method of initializing, provisioning, and managing a cable modem and a customer premise equipment device includes sending a customized configuration file to the cable modem. The configuration file contains service provisioning information and further includes information indicative of a network address type for the customer premise equipment device. A message is passed from the cable modem to the customer premise equipment device indicative of the network address type. The customer premise equipment device is provided with a network address in accordance with the network address type indicated in the message. In this way, the customer premise equipment device knows what kind of address to obtain, and excessive transactions are avoided.
Arrangement for CATV amplifier control
A network element of a cable television (CATV) network, said network element comprising one or more amplifier units for amplifying downstream signal transmission for digital output into one or more output channels; means for detecting output power of all active digital output channels; means for providing a predetermined correlation between the detected output power of said active digital output channels and a corresponding minimum bias current for said one or more amplifier units; and means for adjusting the bias current of said one or more amplifier units on the basis of the predetermined correlation.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR PROACTIVE NETWORK DIAGNOSIS
Embodiments of the present disclosure provide methods, systems, apparatuses, and computer program products for proactive network diagnosis. An example method may include determining, by one or more processors, telemetry data and streaming trap data indicative of a group of cable modem devices being disconnected from a cable network. The example method may include determining, based on the telemetry data and streaming trap data, a first network node device of the group of network node devices. The example method may include generating first performance data associated with the first network node device. The example method may include determining, based on a comparison between the first performance data and an event criterion, an occurrence of an event associated with the first network node device.
Upstream bandwidth management methods and apparatus
A system and method for managing bandwidth of an upstream communications channel in a communications system.
Validation of Content
A collection of well-formed, but possibly semantically invalid, binary encoded multimedia data components or packages as well as the binary encoded announcement, signaling, and interchange protocols used in their transmission are converted into one or more well-formed extensible markup language (XML) files. Such XML files may then be validated according to one or more pre-defined XML schemas, or similar schema languages, in order to verify that the data and protocol structures and substructures adhere to prior defined semantic constraints.
Network interface device
A network interface device includes a passive path between an entry port and a first port. The network interface device also includes an active path between the entry port and a second port. The network interface device also includes a buffer in the active path configured to absorb, attenuate, terminate, or isolate radio-frequency (RF) signals. The network interface device also includes a switching element in the active path configured to cause the RF signals to bypass the buffer when the network interface is in a first state that exists during powered operation of the network interface device, and direct the RF signals to the buffer when the network interface device is in a second state that exists during non-powered operation or faulted operation of the network interface device.
COMMUNICATION APPARATUS, COMMUNICATION SYSTEM, AND COMMUNICATION METHOD
A communication apparatus includes: a communication unit that performs signal transmission to and from a communication partner apparatus; and a communication control unit that changes a signal ratio in a first direction to the communication partner apparatus and a signal ratio in a second direction from the communication partner apparatus in accordance with a signal transmission state with the communication partner apparatus.
