20170310954 · 2017-10-26 · ·

The invention features techniques and systems for presenting two or more perspective views to each eye of the viewer, through division multiplexing of the viewer's entrance-pupil. The system is constituted by a selective-aperture array with each aperture being transparent only to light beams with some special characteristics, at least one display screen for optical information presentation, and other optional elements. The optical message on at least one display screen propagates to the selective-aperture array directly, or be directed to the selective-aperture array or the eye of the viewer by other optional elements. Through selective filtering by the apertures with temporal filtering characteristics or exclusive filtering characteristics, multiple perspective views get presented to an eye of the viewer through the selective-aperture array. Light rays different perspective views superimpose into real spatial light spots that the eye can focus on naturally, resulting in overcoming of the accommodation-convergence conflict.

Image processing apparatus, image processing method, and image communication system

In an image processing apparatus, an image pickup unit takes images of an object including the face of a person wearing the glasses by which to observe a stereoscopic image that contains a first parallax image and a second parallax image obtained when the object in a three-dimensional (3D) space is viewed from different viewpoints. A glasses identifying unit identifies the glasses included in the image of the object taken by the image pickup unit. A face detector detects a facial region the face of the person included in the image of the object taken by the image pickup unit, based on the glasses identified by the glasses identifying unit. An augmented-reality special rendering unit adds a virtual feature to the facial region of the face of the person detected by the face detector.

RESONANT MODULATION OF VARIFOCAL LIQUID MEMBRANE LENS TO PROVIDE MULTIPLE CONCURRENT FOCAL PLANES IN VR DISPLAY FOR REALISTIC FOCUS CUES
20170301313 · 2017-10-19 ·

A near-eye display system includes a display assembly comprising at least one display panel and a display driver to drive the display assembly to display a sequence of frames in a low-persistence mode based on a frame clock signal having a first frequency. The near-eye display system further includes a pair of liquid membrane lenses facing the display assembly, and a lens driver having an output coupled to an input of each of liquid membrane lenses of the pair, the lens driver to generate at the output a periodic, continuously variable driving signal having a second frequency, wherein the first frequency is an integer multiple of the second frequency. As the liquid membrane lenses are synchronized with the low-persistence display of the sequence of frames, each displayed frame is perceived through the liquid membrane lenses at a different nearly constant focal depth, and thus creating a perception to the user of multiple focal planes in the displayed imagery.

3-dimensional image display device

A 3-dimensional image display device includes a signal controller, a data driver, a display panel, and glasses. The signal controller includes a reference gamma data generator to correct image data. The data driver includes a gray voltage generator to generate a gray voltage based on the corrected image data. The display panel displays left-eye and right-eye images based on a data voltage from the data driver. The lenses of the glasses are controlled by a glasses synchronization signal from the signal controller, to compensate for charging rates of the left-eye and right-eye images.
