PROBABILISTIC MODEL TO COMPRESS IMAGES FOR THREE-DIMENSIONAL VIDEO

A method includes receiving head-tracking data that describe one or more positions of people while the people are viewing a three-dimensional video. The method further includes generating a probabilistic model of the one or more positions of the people based on the head-tracking data, wherein the probabilistic model identifies a probability of a viewer looking in a particular direction as a function of time. The method further includes generating video segments from the three-dimensional video. The method further includes, for each of the video segments: determining a directional encoding format that projects latitudes and longitudes of locations of a surface of a sphere onto locations on a plane, determining a cost function that identifies a region of interest on the plane based on the probabilistic model, and generating optimal segment parameters that minimize a sum-over position for the region of interest.

Embodiments present different images to multiple viewers of a shared display using glasses with lenses that transmit only selected images from the display. The images viewed by each of the glasses may be based on the tracked position and orientation of the glasses, so that the images correspond to the user's viewpoint. Different images may also be presented to left and right eyes for 3D stereoscopic viewing. The position and orientation of the lenses of the glasses may be tracked by analyzing images from one or more cameras observing the glasses. Glasses may have distinctive geometric shapes or features, such as circular lenses or rims, or recognizable blobs or patterns, to facilitate tracking. The lenses of the glasses may combine multiple barriers such as anaglyph filters, polarizing filters, and shutters, to select images from the display. Glasses may also be used as pointing devices to select and manipulate 3D objects.

Apparatus and method for presenting media content

A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, controller and a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the controller, facilitate performance of operations that include receiving a media content including three-dimensional image content for presentation on a display device. A presence is determined of a viewer within a line-of-sight of the display device, wherein the viewer is without a viewing apparatus that facilitates viewing of the three-dimensional image content. The media content is adapted to include two-dimensional image content, based on the determining of the presence of the viewer within the line-of-sight and without the viewing apparatus. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Stereoprojection system

The invention relates to stereo projection systems for displaying stereopaired images on mirror-spherical or parabolic screens and for collectively watching a stereo effect without using stereo spectacles. Said invention makes it possible to continuously dynamically superimpose the projections of the left and right picture frames of a steropair with the user's left and right eyes, respectively. Such impositions are carried out simultaneously and independently for each viewer. The technical result is attainable by that the inventive stereo projection system comprises stereo projectors which are individually allocated to each viewer and in-series connected, a monitoring system for continuously and accurately determining the viewers' eye positions, a self correcting device, video-correcting devices, automatic drives for the mechanical self-correction of the stereo projectors and the system optical elements, units which are used for forming stereopair projected images in the stereo projector and which are coupled with the video-correcting device for the video-correction of the optimal parameters of the screen images. The inventive system makes it possible to carry out the self- and video-correction in an integral manner in such a way that the comfort of the stereo effect viewing is maximally satisfied.

Large audience 3D display system without glasses

A three dimensional (3D) display apparatus for without 3D glasses. The display apparatus includes a display element operated to display left and right eye images. A back light assembly back lights the display element and includes light bars with a row of infrared (IR) light receivers that are each paired to a white light emitting diode (LED). Viewers in seats in tiered rows such that their heads are in known viewing locations. Left and right side illuminators illuminate the left and right sides of the faces of the viewers with IR light. The IR light is synchronized with display of the left and right eye images. IR reflected from viewers' faces pass through the display element and is focused onto IR light receivers, which causes LEDs to emit light onto the display element and provide left or right eye images to the viewers at their left or right eyes.

METHOD AND DEVICE FOR OPERATING A LENTICULAR DISPLAY

In one implementation, a method of operating a lenticular display is performed by a device including a processor, non-transitory memory, an image sensor, and a lenticular display. The method includes displaying, via the lenticular display, first content at a horizontal angle of a first user and second content, different than the first content, at a horizontal angle of a second user. The method further includes displaying, via the lenticular display, the first content at a second horizontal angle of the first user and the second content at a second horizontal angle of the second user.
