A head-up display includes a display panel, a parallax barrier, an optical system including a reflector and an optical member, and a controller. The optical system projects a virtual image of an image displayed by the display panel onto a virtual image plane. The controller controls the display panel such that first second images which have a parallax with each other are projected as a three-dimensional image in a field of view of the user, and a convergence angle at which the user views a point on the three-dimensional image is equal to or less than a maximum convergence angle which is greater by 0.43 degrees than a convergence angle for viewing a point on the virtual image plane and is equal to or greater than a minimum convergence angle which is less by 0.43 degrees than the convergence angle for viewing a point on the virtual image plane.

STEREO IMAGE GENERATING METHOD AND ELECTRONIC APPARATUS UTILIZING THE METHOD

A stereo image generating method and an electronic apparatus utilizing the method are provided. The electronic apparatus includes a first camera and a second camera capable of capturing stereo images, and a resolution of the first camera is larger than that of the second camera. In the method, a first image is captured by the first camera, and a second image is captured by the second camera. The second image is upscaled to the resolution of the first camera, and a depth map is generated with use of the first image and the upscaled second image. With reference to the depth map, the first image is re-projected to reconstruct a reference image of the second image. An occlusion region in the reference image is detected and compensated by using the upscaled second image. A stereo image including the first image and the compensated reference image is generated.

An interocular distance measurement method is implementable by a three-dimensional display device including a display, a barrier, a detector, and a controller. The display displays a parallax image. The barrier provides parallax between eyes of a user. The detector detects a position of a face of the user. The method includes displaying an image, detecting a first position, detecting a second position, and calculating an interocular distance. The displaying an image includes displaying an image for interocular distance measurement. The detecting a first position includes detecting a first position of the face of the user in response to an instruction from the user. The detecting a second position includes detecting a second position of the face of the user in response to an instruction from the user. The calculating an interocular distance includes calculating an interocular distance of the user based on the first and the second positions.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ESTIMATING THE VALUE OF AN INPUT IN PRESENCE OF A PERTURBING FACTOR

The present invention concerns a method and a device for estimating the value of an input in a real-time system. It concerns more particularly real time interactive systems where the input is tracked using a first sensor, typically a camera in presence of a perturbing factor. The perturbing factor is estimated using a second sensor. The component of input computed values due to the perturbing factor are cancelled based on this estimation. A next input value is then estimated from the previous computed input values where the perturbing factor has been cancelled. The estimation is then corrected by applying back the estimation of the perturbing factor.

HEAD MOUNT DISPLAY WITH AUTOMATIC INTER-PUPILLARY DISTANCE ADJUSTMENT
20170237977 · 2017-08-17 · ·

A head mount display for use with a virtual reality system allows for an automatic adjustment of an inter-lens distance based on a particular user's inter-pupillary distance (IPD). The IPD for the user is measured, for example by taking an image of the user in a controlled environment and calculating the distance between the user's pupils within the image. Once the IPD is known, a desired inter-lens distance for the particular user may be defined based on user IPD. A computing device in communication with a head mount display unit may automatically adjust the inter-lens distance to match the desired inter-lens distance. A user's IPD and desired inter-lens distance may be stored for the user in a user account. As such, whenever the user participates in the virtual reality system, a head mount display used by the user may be configured with the user's desired inter-lens distance.
