System and method for dynamically adjusting content playback based on viewer emotions
A system and method of adjusting playback of content in response to a viewer's emotional reaction is disclosed. The method includes detecting viewer emotion, via a camera, in reaction to subject matter of the content being presented on a display screen. The content includes subject matter and metadata associated with the subject matter. Additionally, the method analyzes the viewer emotion in reaction to the subject matter of the content presented on the display screen and identifies the analyzed viewer emotion in reaction to the subject matter of the content. The method also associates an identified viewer emotion with at least one playback attribute linked with the presentation of the content using the metadata associated with the subject matter of the content presented on the display screen. Further, the method adjusts the at least one playback attribute linked with presentation of the content that corresponds with the identified viewer emotion.
Method and apparatus for providing audio and video within an acceptable delay tolerance
Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for delivering video and audio to one or more user devices. A method includes obtaining a video signal and an audio signal that are synchronized in time. The method includes applying a first time delay, greater than a predetermined maximum amount of time delay, to the video signal and outputting the delayed video signal to a display device. The method includes generating a plurality of copies of the audio signal and applying a plurality of time delays to the copies of the audio signal. A different time delay is applied to each of the plurality of copies of the audio signal and each of the plurality of time delays is smaller than the first time delay. The method includes outputting the plurality of delayed copies of the audio signal for broadcast to one or more user devices over a wireless network.

METHOD FOR PROVIDING IDENTIFYING PORTIONS FOR PLAYBACK AT USER-SELECTED PLAYBACK RATE
Methods and systems are described for enhancing the viewing experiences of users consuming a content item. The system identifies identifying portions for playback and allows a user to select a playback rate to display the selected portions at. This creates a highlight reel for the user to watch at their selected playback rate.

CROWDSOURCED PLAYBACK CONTROL OF MEDIA CONTENT
Example embodiments provide systems and methods for crowdsourced skipping of media content portions. In an example method, a plurality of content tags are received from a plurality of media content devices over a communication network. Each of the plurality of content tags may designate a location within a media content item. The content tags are processed to generate aggregated content tags for the media content item. The aggregated content tags may designate one or more portions of the media content item for modified playback. The aggregated content tags for the media content item are transmitted over the communication network to a first media content device separate from the plurality of media content devices.
Apparatus, systems and methods for media mosaic management
Systems and methods for managing media mosaics are described. One embodiment provides a media mosaic management method in a media device. The method generates a mosaic filter based on a program selected from a first media mosaic. The mosaic filter is used to identify related programs for presentation in a second, customized media mosaic.
Systems And Methods For Modifying Commercials
Methods and apparatuses to deliver at least a portion of an advertisement to a viewer at normal playback speeds after receiving a command from the viewer to fast-forward through an advertisement faster than normal playback speeds are described. In one example, a portion of the advertisement may be delivered to be played at normal playback speeds, and the remaining portion may be delivered to be played at a playback speed that is faster than the specified playback speed so that the combination of the portions delivered at normal and faster playback speeds is delivered to the user at the specified playback speed. In another example, at least a portion of the first advertisement may be delivered at normal playback speeds, and one or more other advertisements may be delivered to the viewer simultaneously with the first advertisement with the audio information muted based on the specified playback speed.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR GENERATING BOOKMARK VIDEO FINGERPRINTS
Systems and methods for replacing original media bookmarks of at least a portion of a digital media file with replacement bookmarks is described. A media fingerprint engine detects the location of the original fingerprints associated with the portion of the digital media file and a region analysis algorithm characterizes regions of media file spanning the location of the original bookmarks by data class types. The replacement bookmarks are associated with the data class types and are overwritten or otherwise are substituted for the original bookmarks. The replacement bookmarks then are subjected to a fingerprint matching algorithm that incorporates media timeline and media related metadata.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR GENERATING SUMMARIES OF MISSED PORTIONS OF MEDIA ASSETS
A media guidance application may determine a length of a portion of a media asset that the user has missed and compare the length with a threshold length. If the length is greater than the threshold length, the media guidance application may generate a first summary of the missed portion of the media asset based on segments of the missed portion of the media asset that are of a first importance. If the length is not greater than the threshold length, the media guidance application may generate a second summary of the missed portion of the media asset based on segments of the missed portion of the media asset that are of the first importance and the second importance. The media guidance application may generate for display the summary.
