Device resource management during video streaming and playback
10999630 · 2021-05-04 · ·

Techniques described herein include evaluation and management of device hardware, software, and network resources during streaming, downloading, or playback of video resources on client devices from remote locations. Certain aspects relate to evaluating the current resources available at a client device, such as memory, processing capacity, device battery status, network availability and/or network data quotas, in view of a video resource request. Based on the evaluation of the client device's resources, and estimations of the effects that video streaming/downloading and playback may have on the client device's resources, the client device may control, customize, and/or alter the retrieval or playback of requested video resources.

Embodiments of the present disclosure disclose a channel change method and a related apparatus. The channel change method includes: receiving a live stream of a first channel, where the live stream of the first channel includes N media file sets; separately encoding the live stream of the first channel in different coding manners, to generate both a main stream and a sub stream; and generating a playlist of the first channel according to channel information of the first channel, coding information of the main stream, and coding information of the sub stream. The playlist instructs the client to perform channel change according to the main stream and the sub stream in response to that a client sends a channel change instruction.

Elementary module of a system for distributing an audiovisual content

An elementary module of a workflow of a system for distributing audiovisual contents is disclosed. Content is received as a succession of segments which are distributed following a transmission of a request and are obtained by an application of a workflow to a portion of a content. The elementary module executes a processing operation of a predefined type of the workflow and comprises: a variable plurality of processing units available for executing the processing operation of the predefined type, the elementary module regularly obtaining information representing each processing unit added to or removed from the plurality, an allocation module able to manage allocations or disallocations of processing units of the plurality according to requests for first data received; and a load management module able to choose, for each request received, at least one processing unit among the processing units allocated for processing second data in order to obtain first data requested.

In-band trick mode control

A server may receive metadata associated with specific content in a transport signal stream from a content information service. The metadata may identify a point in time of the transport signal stream. The server may instruct an encoder to insert a marker into the transport signal stream corresponding to the point in time of the transport signal stream. The marker may indicate control of a trick mode to be enforced by a delivery platform subsequent to the point in time of the transport signal stream. The server may record the marker in a data store associated with the server.

TEMPORALLY-SEAMLESS CHANNEL CHANGE FUNCTIONALITY IN MULTICHANNEL STREAMING ENVIRONMENTS
20200396499 · 2020-12-17 · ·

Devices, systems, method, and program products are provided, which support temporally-seamless change functionalities during multichannel streaming sessions established between a streaming media server and a client media receiver. In embodiments, the method includes outputting, to a display device, a first streaming channel contained in a streaming channel bundle and assigned a high priority level. When receiving a channel change request to view a second streaming channel, the client media receiver monitors for additional channel change requests over a predetermined wait period. If an additional channel change request is received within the wait period, the client media receiver repeats the step of monitoring. Conversely, if an additional channel change request is not received with the wait period, the client media receiver sends a channel reprioritization command to the streaming media server to prioritize the second streaming channel over the first streaming channel in continued transmission of the streaming channel bundle.
