If it is judged that a face is included in a frame, the facial position is detected in the frame, and stored. Then, judgment is made as to whether a face is included in the next frame after predetermined time. If the judgment is positive, the facial position is detected. The previously stored facial position is replaced by the newly detected facial position, and the newly detected facial position is stored. These processes are repeated until photographing operation is performed by operating a release unit.

A bin count is incremented for each SSL pan angle value of the audio data that falls within a given bin. A bounding box in the image data is determined that encompasses a face depicted in the image data. A range of pixels is determined for the bounding box, such as extending from a leftmost column to a rightmost column. The bin with the highest bin count that also overlaps a range of pixels for a bounding box is deemed to contain the talker.

The digital commencement image is compared with a stored profile image of the athlete to identify the athlete and enter them into the event without the need for the athlete to pre-register for the particular event. Enhanced recognition techniques incorporating pattern recognition may be used to increase identity accuracy.
