Embodiments of systems and methods for the sending, delivery and receiving of faxes are disclosed herein. In particular, certain embodiments include a fax connector that may be deployed at a user's site, and a faxing system that may be deployed remotely from the user's site. The fax connector can be accessed at the user's site over a computer based network in order to perform functions associated with faxing, including sending, receiving and obtaining status on faxes. The fax connector deployed at the user's site communicates with the remotely deployed faxing system to send, receive, obtain status on, or perform other functions associated with, faxing.

Mobile phones and other portable devices are equipped with a variety of technologies by which existing functionality can be improved, and new functionality can be provided. Some aspects relate to visual search capabilities, and determining appropriate actions responsive to different image inputs. Others relate to processing of image data. Still others concern metadata generation, processing, and representation. Yet others concern user interface improvements. Other aspects relate to imaging architectures, in which a mobile phone's image sensor is one in a chain of stages that successively act on packetized instructions/data, to capture and later process imagery. Still other aspects relate to distribution of processing tasks between the mobile device and remote resources (the cloud). Elemental image processing (e.g., simple filtering and edge detection) can be performed on the mobile phone, while other operations can be referred out to remote service providers. The remote service providers can be selected using techniques such as reverse auctions, through which they compete for processing tasks. Computer readable instructions, when executed by a processor, may cause an information processing apparatus to receive, from an operation apparatus, a reading instruction for instructing an image reading apparatus to execute a reading operation and specific service identification information. The computer readable instructions may cause the information processing apparatus to acquire the setting information associated with the specific service identification information from the memory, and transmit the acquired setting information to the operation apparatus. The computer readable instructions may cause the information processing apparatus to receive specific setting information from the operation apparatus, and transmit the specific setting information to a particular image reading apparatus for reading image data in the particular image reading apparatus. The computer readable instructions may cause the information processing apparatus to receive image data from the particular image reading apparatus, and transmit the image data to the service providing apparatus.

A communication terminal acquires a captured image from an image capturing apparatus and transfers the captured image to a server. The communication terminal includes: a first communication unit configured to communicate with the image capturing apparatus; a second communication unit configured to communicate with the server; a display unit configured to communicate with the image capturing apparatus, acquire, from the image capturing apparatus, a captured image managed by the image capturing apparatus, and display the captured image; a sound input unit configured to accept sound input for generating a terminal sound memo related to the displayed captured image; a storage unit configured to store the generated terminal sound memo in association with the captured image; and a control unit configured to perform control so that the second communication unit transfers, to the server, the acquired captured image and the generated terminal sound memo associated with the captured image.

A data processing system comprising a device and a data processing apparatus that is connected to the device via a network and that stores screen data in association with identification information of the device, the screen data including an image processing condition and output destination data for each of one or more operation components, the data processing apparatus comprising a reception unit configured to receive image data and identification data transmitted from a device, an authentication unit configured to obtain authentication data corresponding to an output destination, and receive an authentication of the output destination using the authentication data, and a transfer unit configured to transfer the image data to an output destination indicated by the output destination data corresponding to the identification data of the device.

A service system includes a mobile terminal and an information processing device capable of communication via a network. The mobile terminal includes a first transmission unit that transmits spherical images taken in respective imaging locations and positional information about the imaging locations to the information processing device. The information processing device includes a reception unit that receives the spherical images transmitted by the first transmission unit; a map data obtaining unit that obtains map data from a map data storage, the map data including the imaging locations of the spherical images; a path information creation unit that creates information about a path made by connecting the imaging locations in the map data obtained by the map data obtaining unit; and a content providing unit that makes content available for a request through the network, the content including the map data, the information about the path, and the spherical images.
