A telecommunication network associated with a wireless telecommunication provider can be configured to dynamically switch the primary cell (PCell) used by user equipment (UE) for carrier aggregation (CA) in 5G cellular networks. Instead of remaining anchored to an initially selected PCell, a different PCell may be dynamically selected based on different network conditions. The network conditions may include network congestion, network capacity, uplink speed, location of the UE, an activity of the UE (e.g., is the UE uploading or planning to upload data), and the like. As an example, the PCell may be selected from an n41 (2.5 GHz) cell and an n71 (600 MHz) cell. When the UE is close to the n41 cell, the n41 cell may be selected. When the UE is moving away from the cell center and toward the cell edge, the PCell may be switched from the n41 cell to the n71 cell.

A method for a user equipment maintaining a first set of configuration parameters includes: measuring strength of signals transmitted by a first base station, measuring strength of signal transmitted by at least one of a set of neighbor base stations operating in unlicensed spectrum, determining a second set of configuration parameters corresponding to the cellular network for a second base station in a set of neighbor base stations, by retrieving said set of configuration parameter from said second base station, considering the second base station for cell re-selection when: the measured signal strength for the second base station is higher than said measured signal strength of first base station, and said determined second set of configuration parameters corresponds to said first set of configuration parameters, and carrying out a cell selection to said second base station when these conditions are met.

Handover reduction in satellite communication systems

Systems and methods for facilitating handover reduction in satellite systems are disclosed. A system may include a processor and a memory storing instructions, which when executed by the processor, may cause the processor to detect a user terminal that is selected for a handover procedure. The handover procedure may facilitate a switch from a source beam to a target beam. Based on input data, the processor may evaluate an ideal time value pertaining to a pre-defined time instance at which a scheduled handover is to be performed. The scheduled handover may correspond to at least one of a scheduled change in operating frequency within same beam or a scheduled feeder link handover due to a change in gateway communicating with the satellite. Based on the evaluation and the input data, the processor may estimate an optimized time value that pertains to an optimized time instance associated with an expected handover reduction.

A method of performing cell reselection by a wireless communications device comprises measuring a signal strength of radio signals received from a serving cell, determining whether the signal strength of the signals received from the serving cell is lower than a first predetermined signal strength threshold, if the signal strength is lower than the first predetermined signal strength threshold measuring a signal strength of a neighbor cell operating on the same frequency as the serving cell to generate signal strength measurements at a first rate, and in accordance with the signal strength measurements of the neighbor cell generated at the first rate determining whether to reselect to the neighbor cell.

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, detecting a transit speed of a device, resulting in a detected transit speed; responsive to the detected transit speed satisfying a first threshold, including information in a message related to a handover request between a first access point of a network and a second access point of the network, the information being indicative of an amount of time that the device has been in a Discontinuous Reception (DRX) mode; and sending, to the first access point with which the device communicates and is transitioning away from, the message including the information that is indicative of the amount of time that the device has been in the DRX mode.
