Method for providing continuous connectivity to a device

A communications system, e.g. an Internet-of-Things (IoT) communications system, includes satellite gateways in addition to terrestrial gateways. High QoS end point devices utilize communications via satellite gateway to be able to communicate with a network server when communications with the network server via terrestrial gateways are unavailable or unreliable. Low QoS end point devices may communicate with the network server via terrestrial gateways but are restricted from using the satellite gateways. An additional receive window, corresponding to the satellite gateway, is used for communicating downlink signals from the satellite gateway to the high QoS end point device.

Methods and nodes in an integrated access and backhaul (IAB) network. A method in a node in an IAB network for selecting a preferred route from a plurality of candidate routes for sending data from a first node to a second node in the IAB network is provided. Each candidate route includes at least one intermediate node between the first node and the second node. The method includes, for each candidate route, determining a predicted transmission delay associated with sending the data along the respective candidate route based on channel measurements between nodes along the respective candidate route and an error probability constraint, wherein the transmission delay is predicted for a transmission of the data that satisfies the error probability constraint in view of the channel measurements. The method further selecting a route from the plurality of candidate routes for sending the data based on the predicted transmission delays.

Evolutionary algorithms for geographic load balancing using a distributed antenna system

Methods and apparatuses are presented for balancing non-uniformly distributed network traffic in a wireless communications system having a plurality of digital remote units (DRUs). In some embodiments, a method comprises partitioning the plurality of DRUs into a plurality of DRU sectors, and dynamically repartitioning the plurality of DRU sectors depending on traffic conditions in at least one of the DRU sectors, such that the repartitioning satisfies at least one of a soft capacity constraint or a hard capacity constraint. The dynamic repartitioning may be based on at least one optimization algorithm.
