Method for producing individualized last for personalized fitting and shaping of the inner surface of a shoe

A method of producing a customized shoe last for individual fitting and shaping of the inner surface of the shoe includes production of a shoe last based on a precise shape and size of the digital foot model. The actual physical shape of the foot is converted into a foot model using 3D scanning. The digital foot model is divided into parts required for insertion and functioning of a mechanism, and simulation of the bend in the metatarsophalangeal and ankle joints. The parts of the foot obtained by dividing the digital model are then manufactured. An extendable mechanism to move the parts of the shoe last against each other in three axes of coordinates is developed, based the produced parts, an individual shoe last is manufactured in the form of a physical foot model, configured for personal fitting and shaping of an inner surface of the shoe.

Various articles, such as footwear, apparel, athletic equipment, watchbands, and the like, and methods of forming those articles are presented. The articles are generally formed, in whole or in part, using rapid manufacturing techniques, such as laser sintering, stereolithography, solid deposition modeling, and the like. The use of rapid manufacturing allows for relatively economical and time efficient manufacture of customized articles. Portions of the articles may be manufactured using rapid manufacturing and those portions may be joined with portions formed using conventional, non-rapid manufacturing techniques. The methods may also include performing a scan of an appropriate body part of a user, such as a foot, in order to create a customized article of footwear for the user.

Method for calculating the comfort level of footwear

A method for measuring shoe comfort level is provided. A 3D polygonal model of a foot is constructed from an array of images taken from multiple angles of the foot and leg. Each vertex point is loaded with foot anthropometric sensitive characteristics information. A 3D model of a shoe's inner space is constructed with a scanning device having various opening modes. Each of shoe inner space vertex points is complimented by shoe data such as material type, rigidity, structure, vamp and shoelaces. The 3D polygonal foot model and the vertex inner shoe space model are fitted together and the comfort level for the foot is defined with the simulation of movement.

SYSTEM FOR CUSTOMIZING ARTICLES OF FOOTWEAR

Methods of manufacturing articles of footwear include providing articles to a customer, receiving evaluations of one or more structural characteristics of the articles, and making new customized articles for the customer based on the evaluations of one or more structural characteristics. The method can be conducted as a cycle that is repeated each time the customer buys a new pair of footwear. Systems for manufacturing customized articles of footwear include: a computing system that receives input including a customer-selected evaluation of one or more structural characteristics of an article of footwear, wherein the article of footwear includes a first sole member with a first structural characteristic having a first value; and a second sole member for a second article of footwear, wherein a surface of the second sole member is modified to include a first pattern of apertures and/or incisions based on the customer-selected evaluation of the first structural characteristic.
