Environment scanning using a cellular network
11698453 · 2023-07-11 · ·

A cellular network system and method provided herein are directed to generating an area topographic map of a surrounding area of the cellular network system. The cellular network system comprises a transmitter, a receiver, memory, and one or more processors (processors) communicatively coupled to the transmitter, the receiver, and the memory. The memory stores computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the processors, perform certain operations. The transmitter transmits in a target direction a first signal, which is a communication signal intended for a user equipment (UE) and the receiver receives a second signal. The processors determine whether the second signal is a reflected signal associated with the first signal, determine topographic data associated with the surrounding area of the cellular network system in the target direction based at least in part on the second signal, and generate the area topographic map of the surrounding area based on the topographic data.

Providing a roaming policy federation in a third generation partnership project (3GPP) network environment

Presented herein are techniques associated with replicating an OpenRoaming™ policy federation in a Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) network environment. For example, techniques herein provide a roaming policy federation architecture for a 3GPP network environment. In one example a method is provided that may include encoding a multi-bit roaming policy for an identity provider within a plurality of multi-bit 3GPP broadcast identifiers in which the multi-bit roaming policy includes bit-wise roaming policy information for the identity provider. The method may further include configuring the plurality of multi-bit 3GPP broadcast identifiers for a mobile device associated with the identity provider. In one instance, detecting, by the mobile device, at least one multi-bit 3GPP broadcast identifier of the plurality of multi-bit broadcasting identifiers being broadcast by a visited radio access network triggers the mobile device to perform an authentication with the identity provider.

Silent retry in a legacy system
11700290 · 2023-07-11 · ·

Techniques and systems for selectively implementing a silent retry procedure after a voice session has moved from a preferred IP-based system (e.g., 5GS) to a legacy IP-based system (e.g., EPS) are disclosed. The silent retry procedure may be implemented by a UE and/or by a TAS using one or more specific error codes and/or timeouts. In this manner, after a voice session has been redirected or handed over from a preferred system (e.g., 5GS) to a legacy system (e.g., EPS), and based on an issue arising that prevents the voice session from being successfully established thereafter, the UE or the TAS may reattempt to establish the voice session directly in the legacy system, instead of allowing the UE to transition back to the preferred system (e.g., 5GS) after a session failure in the legacy system, which increases the overall success rate of establishing voice sessions.

MEASUREMENT PROCEDURES FOR DRS WITH BEAMFORMING
20230216548 · 2023-07-06 ·

Systems and methods relating to transmission and use of Discovery Reference Signal (DRS) signals are disclosed in herein. In some embodiments, a method of operation of a Transmission Point (TP) in a cellular communications network comprises transmitting, from the TP, a same one or more DRS signals using at least two different transmit beams in at least two different time resources. Each transmit beam is characterized by a direction in which it is transmitted. In this manner, the TP is enabled to reuse DRS resources, which in turn enables transmission of DRS signals on a larger number of transmit beams and, correspondingly, adaptation of measurement procedures at wireless devices to obtain measurements on those transmit beams.

ALLOCATION OF RADIO RESOURCES FOR VEHICULAR COMMUNICATION

The invention relates to an improved radio resource allocation performed by a vehicular mobile terminal. The vehicular mobile terminal determines whether to determine radio resources based on the location of the vehicular mobile terminal or not, based on information received from an entity of the communication system. In case the radio resources are to be selected based on the location of the vehicular mobile terminal, the vehicular mobile terminal determines the location of the vehicular mobile terminal, and determines radio resources for communication with at least the second mobile terminal, based on the determined location of the vehicular mobile terminal.

Efficient adaptable wireless network system with agile beamforming

Beamforming for adapting wireless signaling beams in an adaptive and agile manner is contemplated. The beamforming may be characterized by adaptively constructing beam form parameters to provide wireless signaling in a manner that maximizes efficiency and bandwidth according to device positioning relative to a responding base station.

Radio bearer switching in radio access

In accordance with the example embodiments of the invention there is performing a communication including transmitting packets of a first traffic subflow and packets of a second traffic subflow via a first radio bearer to a second device; detecting that further packets of the second traffic subflow are to be transmitted via a second radio bearer to the second device; and based on the detecting, transmitting a packet data unit via the first radio bearer to the second device, wherein the packet data unit includes an indication of a switch of the second traffic flow to the second radio bearer, and wherein packets of the first traffic flow continues to be transmitted via the first radio bearer. In accordance with the example embodiments there is receiving from a first device a communication packets of a first traffic subflow and packets of a second traffic subflow via a first radio bearer; receiving from the first device a packet data unit including an indication that further packets of the second traffic subflow are to be received via a second radio bearer, wherein the first traffic flow continues to be received via the first radio bearer; establishing the second radio bearer between a second device and the first device; and based on the establishing, receiving the further packets of the second traffic flow via the second radio bearer.

Handling overhead messages in 5G

Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus for handing overhead messages in new radio (NR). An exemplary method generally includes receiving a first overhead message of a first type comprising first configuration information for the UE, determining a first priority level of the configuration information in the first overhead message, taking one or more first actions based on the first priority level, attempting to receive a second overhead message of a second type comprising second configuration information for the UE, if the second overhead message is received, determining a second priority level of the second configuration information in the second overhead message, taking one or more second actions based on the second priority level.

System and method for reporting beam information

A method for reporting beam information includes setting, by a user equipment (UE), a report type of a beam information report, wherein the beam information report includes beam indices of communications beams being reported, a reference beam quality measurement of one of the communications beams reported, and a report type field conveying the report type, and sending, by the UE to an access node, the beam information report.
