Method and apparatus for coordinating an operation of multiple mobile devices in a group call

A method, Group Application Server, and mobile device are provided that coordinate an operation of multiple mobile devices of a same user in a group call. When the multiple mobile devices join the group call, a first mobile device of the multiple mobile devices determines that it is an active device and provides an indication of such to the Group Application Server. In response to receiving the indication, the Group Application Server identifies a second mobile device, of the multiple mobile devices, that is a non-active device and one or more of modifies subsequent communications with the second mobile device or conveys a behavior modification message to the second mobile device. In another embodiment of the present invention, the first mobile device may indicate that it is the active device directly to the second mobile device and the second mobile device modify its behavior accordingly.

An exemplary system and method for dynamic channel allocation in an LMR system includes using one or more preference indicators to dynamically determine a channel allocation priority to be used for channel allocation when channel allocation requests are received. The preference indicators may include a channel failure indicator (e.g. a channel health indicator based on repeater failures), a channel priority indicator, a radio frequency interference indicator, a high reflected power indicator, an excessive current drain indicator, a loss of backbone communications indicator, and a channel usage indicator. If more than one preference indicator is used, the channel priority ranking may be determined using any of a variety of weightings and prioritizations of the various preference indicators to dynamically generate the channel allocation priority. The dynamic channel allocation system may include one or more site controllers, servers, and/or one or more processors configured to implement the method of dynamic channel allocation.

Method for prioritizing push-to-talk service in a roamed network

A method is provided that allows for prioritizing Push-To-Talk (PTT) service in a roamed network. PTT service is enabled for a mobile device at a first network. The mobile device roams to a second network that is of an older generation than the first network. It is determined that the mobile device has an active PTT subscription. PTT service is prioritized for the mobile device over circuit switched services on the second network.

Mixed mode wireless communication system operational environment

One example Land Mobile Radio (LMR) base station includes a network interface and an electronic processor. The electronic processor is configured to receive profile information of a plurality of fifth generation (5G)/Long Term Evolution (LTE) communication devices. The profile information of the plurality of 5G/LTE communication devices may be transmitted (i) over a background gateway communication channel to an LMR communication network that includes the LMR base station and (ii) in response to the 5G/LTE software defined network detecting a fault condition of the first 5G/LTE communication network. The electronic processor is further configured to broadcast a capture beacon based on the profile information and compliant with at least some characteristics of a 5G/LTE communication protocol. The capture beacon is configured to be received by the 5G/LTE communication device to reconfigure the 5G/LTE communication device for communication compliant with an LMR communication protocol.
