Managing a data center

A data center system includes a frame assembly that includes a plurality of bays defined along a lengthwise dimension of the frame assembly, the plurality of bays arranged in a plurality of stacked layers of bays, the plurality of stacked layers including at least a first layer of bays and a second layer of bays positioned vertically above the first layer of bays; a plurality of server racks positioned in the bays of the first layer of bays, each of the server racks configured to support a plurality of data center server devices that define a particular amount of computing power; and a plurality of network switches positioned in the bays of the second layer of bays, each of the network switches communicably coupled to at least one of the data center server devices in the first layer of bays.

Data center management with rack-controllers

Provided is a process, including: receiving, with a rack-controller, via a first network, an application program interface (API) request; based on the API request, selecting, with the rack-controller, one of a plurality of routines to effectuate control via the second network of at least some of the plurality of rack-mounted computing devices; executing, with the rack-controller, the selected routine and, as a result, sending one or more commands via the second network encoded in a second protocol different from the first protocol to effectuate an action indicated by the API request.

A deployable assembly can be positioned within a building for a datacenter or other environment. An upper frame can be released from the deployable assembly and lifted to allow lower ends of the upper frame to be coupled with upper ends of columns that also form part of the deployable assembly. The deployable assembly can be laterally expanded to extend horizontal members, such as in the upper frame and/or in a core chassis that may further form part of the deployable assembly. The lateral expansion can reach a size suitable for a cold aisle corridor, for example. The core chassis can be raised into a raised position within the upper frame, for example, such that trays within the core chassis are suitably positioned for receiving cabling from computing components to be arranged along the cold aisle corridor.

Data center rack system

This disclosure describes systems for arranging racks within a data center for a smaller and/or more flexible footprint, more efficient and/or resilient cooling, and/or easier installation. In some examples, this disclosure describes a data center rack system that includes an aisle and a plurality of rack stations adjacent to the aisle. The aisle includes an aisle guidance track defining an aisle axis. Each rack station of the plurality of rack stations includes a station guidance track defining a station axis. The station guidance track is configured to receive a rack from the aisle guidance track and position the rack in the respective rack station at a rack angle formed between the aisle axis and the station axis that is less than 90 degrees.
