An insect control device is provided for controlling insects in a household garbage receptacle used in an outdoor or semi-outdoor environment. The insect control device includes an outer housing with gas-flow apertures therein, a quantity of a gas-releasing insect poison contained within the housing, and an adhesive attaching element for securing the housing to an inner surface of a closed or lidded household garbage receptacle. Gas released by the insect poison flows out of the housing through the gas-flow apertures to permeate the air inside the enclosed garbage containment area and kill insects therein while the adhesive element keeps the device securely in place within the garbage receptacle and out of the reach of children and pets during both use and emptying of the receptacle.

In this way the dome can be positioned over an entrance to a ground dwelling of insects thereby inhibiting the insects from exiting the ground dwelling. The dome is comprised of a biodegradable material thereby enabling the dome to decompose after a sufficient duration of time. Additionally, the dome has an insecticide that is applied to the dome to eliminate the insects in the ground dwelling.

Solid pest barrier can be configured to degrade or weather over time, thereby releasing pest control chemical(s). Solid pest barrier can further comprise a curable or cross-linkable material mixed with pest control chemical(s). This mixture can be extruded to form the solid pest barrier. Alternatively, solid pest barrier can comprise an inner chamber or pores that are configured to releasably retain the pest control chemical(s). Solid pest barrier can comprise flexible materials that are woven together, with pores being formed within the flexible materials and also between the flexible materials once woven together to form the solid pest barrier. Such pores can be dimensioned and configured to releasably retain therein/therebetween pest control chemical(s).
