Coaxial cable and method for manufacturing the same

A coaxial cable includes a coaxial wire in which an inner insulator, an outer conductor and a sheath are sequentially and coaxially provided around a center conductor, and a substrate having a surface on which a first contact pad and a second contact pad are arranged. The sheath is removed at one end portion of the coaxial wire by a predetermined length, so that the inner insulator and the outer conductor are exposed, and a tip end of the inner insulator is removed by a predetermined length, so that the center conductor is exposed. The exposed portion of the center conductor is soldered to the first contact pad with the exposed portion of the inner insulator being bent relative to the sheath, and the exposed portion of the outer conductor is soldered to the second contact pad with being bent in a direction different from the bending direction of the inner insulator. A part of the coaxial wire covered by the sheath is standing at an angle of 30 or greater relative to the surface of the substrate.

Communications Cable with Improved Electro-Magnetic Performance

A communications cable having a plurality of twisted pairs of conductors and various embodiments of a metal foil tape between the twisted pairs and a cable jacket is disclosed. In some embodiments, the metal foil tapes include a cut that creates discontinuous regions in a metal layer of the metal foil tapes. When the metal foil tapes are wrapped around the cable core, the discontinuous regions overlap to form at least one overlapping region. The cuts are formed such that overlapping region is small and limits current flow through the metal foil tapes, thereby minimizing alien crosstalk in the communications cable.

Cable for high speed data communications

A cable for high speed data communications is provided. The cable includes a first inner conductor enclosed by a first dielectric layer and a second inner conductor enclosed by a second dielectric layer. The first inner conductor is substantially parallel to the second inner conductor and to a longitudinal axis. The cable includes a conductive shield wrapped around the first and second inner conductors, with an overlap of the conductive shield along and about the longitudinal axis. The overlap is aligned with a low current plane. The low current plane is substantially parallel to the first and second inner conductors, substantially equidistant from the first and second inner conductors, and substantially orthogonal to a plane including the first and second inner conductors.

A coaxial cable of the present invention comprises a center conductor, a dielectric surrounding the center conductor, a shielding tape surrounding the dielectric, a braided metal surrounding the shielding tape, and an outer jacket surrounding the braided metal. The shielding tape comprises: (i) a first shielding layer bonded to a first separating layer; (ii) a second shielding layer bonded to the first separating layer and a second separating layer; and (iii) a third shielding layer bonded to the second separating layer. The present invention eliminates the potential problem of the outer shielding structures separating and interfering with connector attachment. Furthermore, the use of three or more shielding layers in the shielding tape of the present invention improves the flex life of the shield tape by covering micro-cracks in the metal layers with additional shielding layers, thus reducing signal egress or ingress. Accordingly, the present invention provides cost savings and/or an improvement in shielding performance.

Communication cables incorporating separator structures

A cable may include a plurality of twisted pairs of individually insulated conductors and a separator positioned between the plurality of twisted pairs. The separator may include a first longitudinally extending tape structure having a first longitudinal fold formed between its widthwise edges and a second longitudinally extending tape structure having a second longitudinal fold formed between its widthwise edges. Additionally, the first tape structure and the second tape structure may be bonded together along a longitudinally extending line proximate to the first and second longitudinal folds. A jacket may be formed around the plurality of twisted pairs and the separator.
