Contactor device integrating pyrotechnic disconnect features

Disclosed herein are contactor devices, for example, devices that can be utilized as switching elements, comprising fixed contacts that are electrically isolated from one another and one or more moveable contacts that are configured to electrically contact the fixed contacts to provide an electrical connection between them. Movement of the fixed contacts into and out of electrical contact with the fixed contacts controls flow of electricity through the devices. The contactor devices also include pyrotechnic disconnect elements, which function as a circuit break or fuse-like element to protect against overcurrent. When the electrical current through the contactor device reaches a threshold level, a pyrotechnic charge activates, permanently forcing the moveable contacts out of electrical contact with the fixed contacts.

SINGLE- OR MULTI-POLE POWER CIRCUIT-BREAKER AND MODULAR SYSTEM
20190206650 · 2019-07-04 ·

A single- or multi-pole power circuit-breaker, comprises main contacts, overload- and/or short-circuit current-actuated tripping means, an actuating mechanism for the main contacts, an arc chute and a pressure trip unit having a return element and an actuating element responsive to an overpressure in the arc chute. The tripping of the power circuit-breaker by a trip mechanism is executable both by the tripping means and the pressure trip unit. The pressure trip unit is arranged immediately adjacently to both the arc chute and a main busbar. A tripping lug mechanically engages with the trip mechanism such that an overpressure in the arc chute is transmitted virtually instantaneously to the pressure chamber. The actuating element is configured to switch over directly from a home position to a tripping position, against the force of the return element, in a case of overshoot of a pressure threshold value set by the return element.

TRIPPING DEVICE FOR AN ELECTRICAL SWITCHING UNIT AND ELECTRICAL SWITCHING UNIT INCLUDING SUCH A TRIPPING DEVICE

A thermomagnetic trip assembly includes a thermal trip, a magnetic trip, and first and second actuation levers. The thermal trip includes a bimetal strip that is capable of deforming in order to actuate the first actuation lever. The magnetic trip includes a movable armature, a fixed armature and an electrical conductor. The movable armature is capable of moving in order to actuate the second actuation lever. The electrical conductor and the bimetal strip are electrically connected in series with one another between first and second connection terminals of the trip assembly. The movable armature is connected to the first connection terminal, the fixed armature is connected to the second connection terminal, and the respective contact areas of the fixed armature and of the movable armature are made of electrically conductive materials that exhibit a low degree of mutual weldability.
