A food-grade, all-natural cold storage anti-bacterial filter is disclosed. The filter may control moisture, gaseous contaminates, mold, and bacteria within a cold storage unit; improve food safety; and improve the life of cold storage equipment. Reduced food spoilage, reduced energy usage, and increased cold storage shelf life may result from use of the filter. The filter includes a mixture of effective amounts of a base mineral, hygroscopic plant botanicals, and anti-bacterial plant botanicals, wherein the mixture is disposed in an FDA-approved food grade material.

The present invention relates to a composition comprising an antioxidant system, in particular for use as a food composition. In a first aspect the invention provides a composition comprising an antioxidant system obtainable by an extraction method comprising the steps of i) contacting an apolar extractant with a combination of plant powders to prepare an extract, wherein the combination of plant powders comprises: (1) ginger powder having a particle size of less than 800 m, (2) sage powder having a particle size of less than 500 m, (3) rosemary powder having a particle size of less than 500 m, wherein the ginger powder (G), the sage powder (S), and the rosemary powder (R) are present in a weight ratio of G:S:R=1 to 4:1 to 3:1 to 3; and ii) optionally separating the extract from at least part of the residue of the plant powders.

The article includes a substrate which has a predetermined water absorbability, and a humidity control layer coated on the substrate. The humidity control layer is made up of a humidity control composition. The amount of the composition coated on per cubic centimeter of the substrate is 0.54-0.74 grams. The composition includes at least one chloride salt and water. The chloride salt includes at least one of NaCl, NH.sub.4Cl, KCl and MgCl.sub.2. The weight percentage of the chloride salt is 18%-44.6%. The water absorption amount of the substrate is not less than 0.5 grams per cubic centimeter. The article can control the ambient humidity without the need to pre-adjust the objective space. The article has a large capacity of moisture absorption and desorption and can quickly achieve the desired humidity in the objective environment.

METHODS OF PACKAGING AND PRESERVING FINFISH

Methods are provided for storing and preserving comestible finfish material, preferably so as to extend shelf life of the same. In one optional method, comestible finfish material is placed in a product containing space of a storage container atop a platform of a support structure. The storage container includes an internal compartment having the product containing space. The support structure defines the platform for supporting the comestible finfish material. The internal compartment further includes a reservoir, configured to retain liquid, below the platform. The platform and/or support structure are configured to direct liquid exuded from the comestible finfish material to the reservoir. Optionally, the reservoir comprises an absorbent material for absorbing liquid in the reservoir.

METHODS OF PACKAGING AND PRESERVING MOLLUSKS

Methods are provided for storing and preserving comestible mollusk material, preferably so as to extend shelf life of the same. In one optional method, comestible mollusk material is placed in a product containing space of a storage container atop a platform of a support structure.
