A method and apparatus for printing on an article are disclosed. An embodiment of a method may include the generation of a virtual mask that can designate areas for printing and/or designate areas to exclude from printing. A method may include utilization of the virtual mask during either 2D or 3D printing such that a print design is printed in areas designated for printing by the virtual mask.

A method of forming an upper for an article of footwear includes providing a first material layer over a shoe last, providing a second material layer over the first material layer such that the first and second material layers adhere to each other at an interface between the first and second material layers, where one or both of the first material layer and second material layer is provided by spray forming a polymer material onto the last. The invention relates to a method of processing a sheet material for use in the manufacture of a product. The invention also relates to a blank for at least part of a manufactured product. The blank comprises a sheet material shaped in accordance with the at least part of a manufactured product, the sheet material comprising a two-dimensional mark on a surface of the sheet material; one or more strengthening members arranged at one or more sides of the sheeting material; wherein one or more of at least part of the two-dimensional mark and at least part of the one or more strengthening members are positioned with respect to an indentation formed in the sheet material to thereby provide a three-dimensional mark on said surface.
