A method of using the foot device comprises engaging the arcuate portion with a heel of a foot to form a first point of contact; positioning the relief area of the first leg proximate a fifth metatarsal head of the foot such that the fifth metatarsal head drops to form a second point of contact; and positioning the relief area of the second leg proximate a first metatarsal head of the foot such that the first metatarsal head drops to form a third point of contact, wherein the first, second, and third points of contact form a triangle-shaped contact surface.

A foot orthotic designed to unweight the ball of the foot, or more precisely the foot region of one or more of the five metatarsal heads, to alleviate pain while walking or standing. Using a connector from the foot orthotic to a sulcus bar provides a reproduceable front to back position of the sulcus bar relative to the foot orthotic. In certain aspects of the invention the connector provides further unweighting of the metatarsal heads, and also ensures a specific custom position of the sulcus bar throughout the foot orthotic fabrication process. Various methods of manufacturing an orthotic are also disclosed.

In one aspect, a shoe sole comprises a shoe outer sole comprising a shaft region, a ball region, and a toe region. The shaft region underlies metatarsal shafts of the wearer and comprises a first lower surface, the ball region underlies metatarsal heads of the wearer and comprises a second lower surface, and the toe region underlies phalanges of the wearer and comprises a third lower surface. The second lower surface is raised relative to the first lower surface and the third lower surface.
