Integrated digital active phased array antenna and wingtip collision avoidance system
A radar system to detect and track objects in three dimensions. The radar system including antennae, transmit, receive and processing electronics is all in a small, lightweight, low-cost, highly integrated package. The radar system uses a wide azimuth, narrow elevation radar pattern to detect objects and a Wi-Fi radio to communicate to one or more receiving and display units. One application may include mounting the radar system in an existing radome on an aircraft to detect and avoid objects during ground operations. Objects may include other moving aircraft, ground vehicles, buildings or other structures that may be in the area. The system may transmit information to both pilot and ground crew.
Omnidirectional Antenna System
An antenna system may include a first antenna, and a second antenna opposite the first antenna, wherein the first antenna and the second antenna are configured to provide omnidirectional coverage.
Embedded antennas in aerostructures and electrically short conformal antennas
A mobile platform communication system includes one or more HF antennas disposed in the surface of the mobile platform. The HF antenna may comprise one or more mesh screens. Alternatively, or in addition, the HF antennas may comprise characteristic mode transducers to excite metallic features on the mobile platform skin. The mobile platform skin includes a lightning strike protection layer that is disposed within the mobile platform skin around in internal surface of the antenna such that the antenna does not distend the mobile platform skin and increase drag.
Systems, apparatus, and methods for airborne data retrieval
Systems, apparatus, and methods are provided for retrieving data from remotely deployed sensor systems. Flight control systems are also provided for maintaining the orientation of a high gain antenna affixed to an aircraft relative to a stationary or nearly stationary transceiver.
MULTI-PANEL MULTI-FUNCTION AESA SYSTEM
A system and method for a multi-panel multi-function active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar operation receives radar commands from individual aircraft systems and segments a plurality of AESA panels fixed (at variable azimuth/elevation about the aircraft) into a plurality of subarrays to carry out each individual function commanded by the individual aircraft system. Dependent on aircraft status and phase of flight, the and individual AESA are designated for use and the subarrays are sized based on desired radar function at the specific phase of flight and specific threat associated with the phase. The system dynamically shifts the designated AESA, subarray size, beam characteristics, power settings, and function to enable multiple simultaneous function of the suite of AESA panels.
SIGNAL TRANSMITTING COMPONENT
A component including a substrate with dielectric coating on the substrate. The electrical reactance of the dielectric coating configured for the propagation of electromagnetic surface waves. The dielectric coating is arranged as a plurality of discrete pathways. Also a signal transmission system including a component, an electromagnetic surface wave transmitter coupled to the substrate, and an electromagnetic surface wave receiver also coupled to the substrate.
HIGH GAIN TIGHTLY COUPLED DIPOLE ANTENNA ARRAY
An antenna system including an array of conductors connected to a feed line, wherein the array is configured to (1) emit electromagnetic radiation in response to an input signal being input to the array through the feed line or (2) output an output signal to the feed line in response to electromagnetic radiation being received on the array; and a director disposed in front of the array, wherein the director has a first reactive load having a complex impedance that is tailored to increase a directivity of the antenna system by reactively loading the conductors.
MULTI-POLARIZATION HF NVIS FOR VERTICAL LIFT AIRCRAFT
A system of high-frequency (HF) antennas is disposed on various aircraft body panels. The antennas are configured for orthogonal polarization such that NVIS may be operable no matter the state of the ionosphere. The antennas are disposed on substantially perpendicular body panels so that, when operated in concert, the resulting signals have opposite polarization and at least one signal will bounce off the ionosphere.
ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATORS WITH GROUND PLANES HAVING DISCONTINUITIES
An electromagnetic radiator with ground plane having discontinuities is disclosed. A disclosed example antenna includes an antenna element, including a first conductive material adjacent to a first dielectric material, to transmit a signal. The disclosed example antenna further includes a microstrip feed network, including a second conductive material adjacent to a second dielectric material, to transmit power to the antenna element, the antenna element proximity coupled to the microstrip feed network. The disclosed example antenna further includes a ground plane, including a third conductive material adjacent to a third dielectric material, to provide a signal return path, the ground plane including gaps regularly spaced in the third conductive material.
Multi-band integrated antenna arrays for vertical lift aircraft
A system of antennas, each having disparity operating frequencies, are incorporated into the same aircraft body panels. HF antennas define loops with large internal areas; additional higher frequency antennas are disposed within that large internal area. The higher frequency antennas are sufficiently different so as to prevent coupling. Antennas operating in the same frequency range, disposed on different parallel surfaces are operated in concert as a steerable array.
