System and Method of Optical Antenna Tuning

A method includes determining an operating frequency of an antenna at a component of the antenna. The method includes determining, at the component of the antenna, a filter node of a plurality of filter nodes to activate to tune the antenna to the operating frequency. The method includes transmitting power to the filter node, wherein the power is transmitted via a first optical fiber. The method also includes sending a signal from the component to a light source. The activation of the light source sends an optical signal to the filter node. The filter node adjusts a characteristic of a radiating element coupled to the filter node using the power responsive to the optical signal. Adjustment of the characteristic facilitates tuning the antenna to the operating frequency.

Systems for receiving electromagnetic energy using antennas that are minimally affected by the presence of the human body

An antenna for receiving wireless power from a transmitter is provided. The antenna includes multiple antenna elements, coupled to an electronic device, configured to receive radio-frequency (RF) power waves from the transmitter, each antenna element being adjacent to at least one other antenna element. Furthermore, the multiple antenna elements are arranged so that an efficiency of reception of the RF power waves by the antenna elements remains above a predetermined threshold efficiency when a human hand is in contact with the electronic device, the predetermined threshold efficiency being at least 50%. Lastly, at least one antenna element is coupled to conversion circuitry, which is configured to (i) convert energy from the received RF power waves into usable power and (ii) provide the usable power to the electronic device for powering or charging of the electronic device.

Tunable aperture for multiple spectrums

Methods and apparatus for a tunable dual spectrum antenna aperture including a RF antenna having first and second portions, wherein the first portion comprises a photoconductor material having a conductive state and a non-conductive state, and an IR sensor to detect IR energy. The state of the first portion determines a size of the RF antenna.

Antenna structure, for different range communication modes

The invention provides an antenna structure comprising a plurality of wire segments formed in a loop. Connecting units are provided between the wire segments, each of which is switchable between a conductive state and a reactive state. With the connecting units in the conductive state a loop antenna is formed with a first (longer) signal range and with the connecting units in the reactive state an antenna structure is formed with a second (shorter) signal range. Said reactive state is adapted to introduce a phase delay between the adjacent wire segments. This enables the same antenna to be used for long range signal communication and short range communication, for example for system configuration or commissioning. The antenna structure may be used with luminaires of a lighting system.
