Beam shaping for reconfigurable holographic antennas

A reconfigurable holographic antenna and a method of shaping an antenna beam pattern of a reconfigurable holographic antenna is disclosed. A baseline holographic pattern is driven onto a reconfigurable layer of the reconfigurable holographic antenna while a feed wave excites the reconfigurable layer. An antenna pattern metric representative of a baseline antenna pattern is received. The baseline antenna pattern is generated by the reconfigurable holographic antenna while the baseline holographic pattern is driven onto the reconfigurable layer. A modified holographic pattern is generated in response to the antenna pattern metric. The modified holographic pattern is driven onto the reconfigurable layer of the reconfigurable holographic antenna to generate an improved antenna pattern.

The two first conductive pillars are disposed between two neighboring unit radiation members and electrically connect the feed routing layer and the conductive layer. A dual slot SIW antenna array module is also disclosed. By use of the dual slot structure, more radiation members are allowed to be included in a limited square measure for improving the antenna gain.

A slot array antenna where slots are arrayed in two directions is provided for suppressing occurrence of side lobes. An antenna includes a radiation waveguide part and stubs. The radiation waveguide part has two sheets of metal plates facing each other and outwardly radiates a radio wave from a plurality of slots formed in one of the metal plates. Each stub is arranged for every slot to extend inward of the radiation waveguide part from the face where the slots are formed, and changes a transmission mode of the radio wave within the radiation waveguide part. The slots are narrow and arranged at fixed intervals in both a longitudinal direction and a lateral direction of the slots. The stub is disposed for every slot, on either side of the slot in the lateral direction. Between the adjacent slots, the stubs are disposed on the opposite sides in the lateral direction.

The dual-band shared-aperture antenna array includes: a waveguide-substrate integrated waveguide transition structure, a multi-stage cascaded power splitter, a transverse coupling slot, a longitudinal coupling slot, a matching through-hole, a shared-aperture dual-mode parallel waveguide, and a shared-aperture parallel slot array. The entire structure includes two dielectric substrates. A signal is input to the multi-stage cascaded power splitter through the waveguide-substrate integrated waveguide transition structure located on a bottom-layer substrate. The foregoing dual-band shared-aperture antenna array based on a dual-mode parallel waveguide can separately implement a low-band fixed-beam slot array antenna, a high-band multi-beam long slot leaky-wave antenna, or a fixed-beam slot array antenna. It has a simple structure, multiple functions, high integration, a small size and light weight.

A low-loss feeding network comprises a vertical switching structure, a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW), a 2.sup.N-way power divider, coupling slots, matching metal vias and parallel-plane waveguides, wherein the energy provided by a standard waveguide is coupled to the SIW through the vertical switching structure, and the energy outputted by the SIW is evenly split into 2.sup.N parts by the 2.sup.N-way power divider; the energy of each way outputted by the 2.sup.N-way power divider is coupled to parallel-plane waveguides through the coupling slots and the matching metal vias, and the electric field at the junction of two adjacent parallel-plane waveguides is zero, so that an ideal virtual electric wall is formed, thus the structure of the feeding network is simplified, and the metal loss at the junction is reduced; finally, the energy provided by the low-loss feeding network is radiated in phase through the symmetrical slot antenna array.
